Yep - nice ramp up, folks. You passed up AMD in much less time than it took us to catch them. Just wanted to drop in and say good going, since there are so many familiar names over here, still.Originally Posted by em99010pepe

Try this to get a feel for running multiple copies.
1: right click on the redlib directory select copy.
2: right click on some empty space in the same window select paste.
the copy will be named copy of.
3: right click on the directory select properties.
change the name, basically remove copy of and put a number on the end
4: go into that directory and right click on the redlib exe, select properties and add a number to the name.
5: double click the exe you just renamed and another redlib will run.
6: repeat 1 through 5
more easy :
1. go in redlib-dlv directory (c:\redlib-dlv)
2. select redlib-dlv.exe
3. press CTRL-C (copy)
4. press CTRL-V (paste) about 50 times
5. select all files beginning by "copy", then right click and select "open"
6. you have 50 instances running
this is the dumbest way (my way) to do it, you don't have to edit any name, it takes about 50 seconds.
hope this help

One problem with your method is that they will all be using the same links.
Each instance should download it's own links.zip.
By launching all the exe's from the same directory you are forcing them to share the same links file.
the link.xml files contain all +/-8500 link from the red library project and all instance receive a different line in the link file.
the server give this information to the instance : take link number x to x+10 (or link #1 #345 #567 ...) then the instance go in the link file and look for the links ... the link assignment come from the server not from the file.
they just share every static files. a lot of space is saved.
I don't say it's the best way to do it, I say it's the easyest and fastest way to do it for someone who has a wide range of computer (just copy/paste directory) and very easy to do, as it was asked.
the redlib instance don't write anything on the hard disk ... but it keep every link parsed in memory, so the memory use of the app is increasing with time ... (starting around 20 mb and allready seen at 37 MB) so you have to kill them and restart as often as you can to save memory (and hard disk with virtual memory)
Guess it isn't really necessary to have seperate directories after all.
Could save a bit of disk space and make setting up a lot easier.
Agree about them eating up memory over time and needing to be restarted.
Also they have a habit of stopping and it's difficult to know which exe has stopped.
I had problem with my router (philips wireless, comming from my internet provider, who is limited to 4 user, don't know how to change that ...) so i just changed it to a Cisco 837 ... It will sure be more stable and will be able to manage more instance ...
I'm waiting for someone producing a command line redlib.exe
You should be fine with the 837 unless you have lots of dimes clients running as well.
My 827 needs a weekly restart if i'm running MJ12 or lots of dimes clients.
If not it will stay up for months without any problems.
If you start to get slow page loading clearing out the nat translations usually
fixes it without a reload.
clear ip nat tr fo
if i have any problem with the 837 i will go to 1721 or 1841 ... but I have something like an autoreset here at home ... It's an old farm that i'm rebuilding and as the electricity part was very old, i managed to have a separate line for computers ... but if i need to use electric machine for the rehabilitation, i cut the computer power ...
all computer are on UPS so they continue to work but the modem is not on ups so it reset ... autoreset almost everyday ...
by the way you were true on the links.xml files it's updated by each client on startup ... so you parse the same sites with all you client ... but who care ... as we are parsing all redlibrary links a lot of time everyday ...
so it's better for the project to make multiple directory
haha I did all of what you posted above except renameing redlib exe to redlib2 exeOriginally Posted by PCZ
I tried starting the new redlib exe and Noting would happen. So I gave up

The exe should be called RedLib-DLV.exe
You need to change the name.
RedLib-DLV01.exe
RedLib-DLV02.exe
etc
You can select rename from the right click menu or change the name on the properties sheet.
