    Max CPU running temp?

I have a new desk with an enclosed CPU area, with big vent holes in the back.

I stuck my mini-tower with an AMD XP2600 in there, closed the door, fired up BOINC, and I'm watching the temps climb.

The case has got at least 5 fans - 2 blowing in, one exhaust, plus the PS exhaust, and a big CPU cooler.

The CPU is running at 123F right now, and seems to be on a slow climb. I have the CPU fan throttles down a bit to keep the noise down.

    The MB temp is 101F.

When do I start to get concerned? What's the safe CPU temp of an Athlon XP?

Yeah, AMD and Intel both publish their max temps. You just have to get in there and dig to find yours. Usually it goes by processor family. I wouldn't get worried at anything below 160F or thereabouts.

Having built a few boxen, it's been my experience that air flow is a LOT more important than total air movement. That is, how the air is directed inside the box. I really like the big 120mm fans that run slower but move more air. ymmv
