stupid questions thread

I'm pretty sure I want to make all my computers Linux based. I also want to be able to connect to each one through the software of my main computer, the one I'm typing on.

Assuming I'm moderately savvy about computer stuff in general, but not savvy at all about networking, what should I do? Mind you, the reason for this message is that the only possibility I can think of is Googling VNC, but the most recent posts are a couple years back, so something better might be out there and I wouldn't know it.
