    Unhappy Milkyway Off Line

looks like some maintanance is being done at the moment at Milkyway.

The word is on their forum is that they will also sort out the cheaters!!!

Was looking at some of the high scorers, and they have cpu ratings that will not be out for 50 years or so. Strange that after these people were shopped their PC's became hidden.

I never knew it was so easy to fool BOINC into giving high scores!!

I will unhide all my PC as a result

Didn't want too many people knowing that i only have a few PC's in my home farm To easy to be

Yeah, 159587.07 million ops/sec - that's some rating!! Can I have one of those?
He's got 3 boxen and in the few weeks this project has been alive has outscored Laurenu2? Riiiiiiiiight!
A little more full disclosure, here, please.

Oh well, at least my rant about communications may have done some good. Travis took the server down for maintenance things and actually posted to say what things. Well... after my rant, but hey!

....pointed out as a cheater by some guy and the credits got shopped off

Cool down a bit guys, think before you write.

I would not worry much about it unless the mod did the pointing
In the past people just hear the word Cheater and the go off half cocked

    Helix

I think he is suggesting I have cheated.

Now if we were down the pub together I would have to take him outside for a short sharp slap.

However as he doesn't know me at all I can forgive him this one indiscretion.

I have posted on the Milkyway forum and I hope Travis will see his error and sort my credit out. He erroneously thinks that my dual Xeon was asingle and that it couldn't gain the credit it did. Stupid of him not to email me to ask any sort of questions before tarring me with the same brush as those who have done something with their credit.

I ran Milkyway exclusively on my dual Xeon rig on a standard install of BOINC now if it f**ked up the credit then that's a BOINC bug I have never edited anything in the BOINC installation, wouldn't know how to anyway, and I am not interested in doing so.

If he doesn't return my credit then he's lost me as a cruncher and I urge everyone in the team to act on this injustice by supporting my post.

This is just another one of those projects that have not matured properly.
reminds me of the old seti days...
We should avoid the project until such time as it has worked out all the bugs/cheaters/problems etc.
This would allow us to focus on other projects and avoid all the negativity.

I hate to agree, because it's scientifically interesting, but you're probably right.
We'll see what they do with the issue of Fozzie's purloined points.

It is a Milk/BOINC problem dealing with dual Xeon's

    Well

I've detached the project and won't reattach it anytime soon, aprt from the Xeon to show Travis what it is capable of, for the weekend anyway.

To erase all my work especially as I ran the project exclusively on that box sucks the big fat one IMHO, he should have entered into some sort of communication.

I love to waste my electricity

Hey, Fozz. 7,611 points is not too shabby for a single post!

I do have the thought that some of the errors are caused by the app.

I have not known of a project that has had so many strainge results from the users.

Some results were so over the top that no one could have thought that they would get away with it.

Normal points awarded were between 1 - 2. the highest score for one wu was over 787,000.

i would lean toward a project problem, not a users one

Well, they certainly have their full measure of problems. Users are complaining it's out of work again. There are glitches all over the web site. They're talking about problems with WU's. It ain't pretty.

Me sittin' tight, goin' nowhere near.

Well, this is an Alpha project and anything can happen.
I think it's much more important to run and test this project than to support Fozzie that seemed to have a bad box, look here: http://www.volny.cz/dsl_353972280/cheaters/

Bye Bye and thanks for the fish !!

But what you are not understanding is that Fozzie did NOT edit his XML file.
It is a project problem. Tommorow, someone might post over there that you have been editing your XML file, then all your points are taken away.

If you look at the processor types that this seems to happen to, there is a pattern. We do understand that it is an ALPHA project, but one is not normally accused of cheating because of project problems.

To be fair, no-one is saying that at all. We are just waiting to make sure the project is sorted out first. I've done enough alpha testing on it for now, but once it's up and running in beta I'll be sure to do more on it.

If you feel so strongly to pull out of all the Free-DC teams, that's your perogative, we are sorry to see you go.

Yup, alpha projects always have their share of ups and downs and problems, we all agree on that. Fozzie does not cheat.
You are Free to DC anywhere you like, however, we hope you don't make such a hasty decision based on an alpha projects problems.

No need to blow this up

out of proportion. I get right anoyed when I have spent considerable time and money on a project and it goes wrong.

Milkyway admins dealt with it very poorly, so I won't run the project again.

Enigma provided a optimised client which caused 24 hours for my quad and dual to be useless. So that project isn't going to be run again.

We are all free to do as we wish and bitch about things that we don't feel is right. Hey I'm first to bitch about most things.

Anyways whatever anyone decides to do is up to them. For me I am steering well clear of alpha projects run by people with no idea about communication or fair play.

looks like the XEON and the AMD are ok.

You have issuses with the Q, and C2D

Try those two on the standard client

Well I have started to detach from M.Y. But you know me it does take a bit of time for me to start Or stop a project
I think I still have a lost rouge client some where that is still working M.Y.

    I'm going to do

a bunch of Rosetta wus and think about what to go for next.

Maybe NQueens will be back by then, who knows.

Even pushed through some RCS72 wus whilst I was thinking about Rosetta.

With all due respect(and there's a lot due around here) alpha projects are essentially growing pains stages. As long as they have the label of alpha, the only thing you should trust them to do is work on bugs. They don't know if their points system is going to work, they don't know if their stuff is going to crash, and most importantly, they don't know what they don't know. That last one is especially important. If you knew how you were going to screw up, you probably wouldn't have screwed up in the first place.

Free-DC is a great team with a great Forum. Alpha projects are not for competing, they're for figuring out how to get crap to work properly. When you do an alpha project, you're not a DCer. you're a bug tester.

The point is not that it is an Alpha project. It is the fact that one of our own has had his name erroneously dragged through the mud.

I myself would react the same if this was a mainstream project that had been running for years.

Our team mate has had his name plastered up on the Milkyway site as a cheater. His requests for this slander to be removed fell on deaf ears. Eventhough this deformation being posted was against milkyway forum rules.

I think that we understand that an Alpha might have a server up and down like a tarts knickers, and that when alpha testing is finished, the points may not carry over to the running project.

    We are a little miffed

I understand that this project is young and I dealt with all the errors I received.
But I do have a problem with the Admins in the way they chose to handle this problem.
Thats why I pulled my support from the project

We are a team we must support each other
