No worries Lauren, just saying that they have been great parties in the past and we missed it this year. Actually, it really *is* your fault... if you didn't throw such awesome parties we wouldn't miss them!!!

    Merry Christmas!!!

I'm having déjà vu with those videos and what I did last year after posting them... I've changed some of the display and some of the sequences since posting 'em. BUT, I'm hoping that unlike last year I actually *DO* take videos of the updated display because that 35' long arch now has all three colors as well as 18 strobes.

TRAFFIC UPDATE: Traffic has started to pass the critical point sometimes which isn't good for our road. We are shutting down the display when the road gets impassible. Then once it clears out we are starting it back up. Unfortunately it's something we have to do.

Oh nice, please re-take the video. And if Vimeo has a limit on what HD video you can upload, YouTube now supports HD so you should be able to upload all of them in HD without any limits I think?

IIRC, the only limits on YouTube are a 2GB file size and 10:59 duration (though they quote it as 10 minutes).

Just wanted to wish you all Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!

We did the lights again this year and we're up to ~70,000-75,000. The videos will be online in the next couple weeks but we are playing with a live feed from a Microsoft HD webcam. It looks pretty decent but it's from inside the house so it's a little different view.

Jeff, I'm sure I'm not the only one that was wondering how those lights were doing.
I'm stuck at home right now 6 inches of snow on the ground and well my little car is just wheel spinning.

I understand. We're getting the same stuff with more on the way tonight. High temperature today was -7c. It reminds me of the Feb I spent in Siberia.

Seasons greetings to you as well.

Is there a portable nuclear power plant in your back yard to run all of that?

Very nice. The boys were just looking at your previous year videos and will be excited to see new ones for this year. The live webcam thing is cool, I just saw the USPS truck go by.

Yeah, that brings up an instance where the lights were giving me fits and I had a few choice words for them... I went inside and noticed there were 3 people watching the live feed. UGH. I ended up posting a little apology on the website in case any of them heard me.

Here is the first two videos of the year...
    MaineLights.org - A Christmas Sandstorm (2010)

    MaineLights.org - Nutrocker (2010)

I found out our little Fujifilm camera has better color video than our Canon video camera so I tried it for these videos. I had to get across the street to get most everything in frame so it's a little distant.

Sandstorm is my favorite and Nutrocker is my wifes(Hey! Be nice!) even though it's not really finished.

I have to say, this being the third year I'm finally getting comfortable with the software enough to play around. I still like getting sequences from other people to see what they do(and hope they have good timing) but it only seems to work out ~30% of the time(the other 70% I'm re-doing timings which takes loads of time).

I'll be sure to post videos of our other new songs in the coming weeks.

    Merry Christmas guys!

Time to bring this thread to the top again.

Nice to see that you're doing the display again this year, Jeff.

I just watched a show on cable called something like "Invasion of the Christmas Lights", and one of the segments featured Richard Holdman, which then reminded me to go check http://mainelights.org

In case you caught that show, the segment at the end in Seattle featured a house just a stone's throw away from here. I told my wife I need a new hobby - she's scared now.

Jeff, you are truly certifiable! I love it.

When guests or family (usually family, guests are too polite) question my sanity with 8 or 9 (or more) computers running all sorts of applications around my house, I sit them down and point them to MaineLights.org. After which, they usually say something to the effect of, "Wow, that guy's REALLY bananas!"

Thanks. Keep up the good work. And Merry Christmas!
