Question How do I get started?

    Sign up here:
    http://www.blueprint.org/proteinfold...old_login.html
They will send you a handle (nickname) to use via email

    Download the client here:
    http://www.blueprint.org/proteinfold..._download.html

Install it to c:\dcprojects\distribfold or where ever...

Go into that directory and do the following:

Create a file called handle.txt and put in the nickname they sent you via email and save it
Create a file called autoupdate.cfg and put a 1 in it and save it.

If you have 256mb of ram at least,
    edit the foldit.bat file

    Find this line
    .\foldtrajlite -f protein -n native
    and change it to
    .\foldtrajlite -f protein -n native -rt
and if you want maximum performance use
    .\foldtrajlite -f protein -n native -rt -qt
(then use a 3rd party add-on to monitor it. - see below)
If you don't have the memory (-rt), you can try it anyways and watch out for the disk swapping...
Save it and now run foldit.bat
You will show up in the stats within 1-2 hours

You will need to login to your personal page with the handle you got and the password you entered during registration, here:
    http://www.blueprint.org/proteinfold...old_login.html
Then you can join the Free-DC.org Team, among other things, while you are there.

    Phase II FAQ

DFGui - Monitor and Control your TEXT Client Highly recommended I use it on all my boxen.

If you have many Windows TEXT based clients to monitor, you should get
DCmonitor by pizzaking Works great with Phase II - I use it

For those of you that may want to help out but, for one reason or another, do not want to be identified, I have created a handle for just such a purpose.
You can use to the following handle to help the team and still remain anonymous.

    About time.

    Good work.

Might also include a link to dfGUI for those who don't like to edit batch files (or don't know how). Or provide a copy of a properly configured batch file.

I have been meaning to get a visual guide put together, but haven't, you could beat me to it if you want and I could point people here (cause I am lazy).

Also, if they are just getting started the new foldit.bat will ask them all these questions the first time it is run, so they don't need to edit the batch file at all if they don't want to.

Well, while you guys are debating the merits of including the link, here it is: http://gilchrist.ca/jeff/dfGUI/.

Winders users, go to that site, download and install the latest version of dfGUI, and be able to control your Distributed Folding experience with the greatest of ease. Oh yeah, and please read the instructions that come with it!

Please note that dfGUI is for use with the "text client", not the screensaver, on Windows systems ONLY.

This way does work great, but in order for the client to think that it is the first time there needs to be no handle.txt in the folder. If you just run foldit.bat before doing anything else it will add the flags to foldit.bat, make handle.txt, and even make the autoconfig.cfg file.
