    Speed Test

It would be nice if some of you could hit this
http://www.ironbits.net/speedtest/index-php.html link and post back some numbers for me.
Just interested in finding out how the bandwidth looks from out there in Inet land.
Thanks in advance for those that do.

Here is a link for our visually challenged friends. http://www.ironbits.net/speedtest/speedtest.swf

Yes, if you go to speednet.net where they have mega fast commercial lines, you will get better performance.
If you pick a location closer to where you live, you will get a more accurate performance mark of what your speed is to the internet from your location.
Checking performance to a far away distance place will also give you the worst ...

That's not bad from Chicago to Glendale, AZ. tho.
And you are mostly interested in your Download speed... TO your PC from another site...

212/95 on a theoretical 512/128 line. Though I am in Wollongong, Australia. I imagine there would be a lot of jumps between my computer and your server.

It was 405/103 on a Sydney server (jump of only a 100km or so). Upload to you is sweet, download a bit limited.

Edit: Those numbers are dl/ul. Australian broadband sucks mightily.

    Sorry, not currently allowing Flash.
    Is there another option?

    1150/130 to your site IB....

    Closest: 12607/728

    10152/732 to Germany
    10022/448 to France
    9565/732 to Belgium

I think the speednet options are not fast enough to max it out, max is 20mbit/1mbit, with standard giganews downloads running at 2.3MB/s (2355 'ish).

    Some fun ones:

    2079/657 to Japan
    2410/642 to New Zealand
    2831/626 to Chile

    Got the sucker to work!

    to IB's site: 605 down 444 up
to Tampa: 6877 down! 477 up
to Speedtest site in Tucson: 6874 down 485 up

Retested on IB's site & the numbers just got worse.

    1151 Kbps down/299 Kbps up.

With an "official" speedtest.net server close to me, I get 2270 Kbps down/333 Kbps up (for comparison purposes, this might be helpful).

1100 Kbps down is what I was expecting everyone to get, at the theoretical limit...
That would be 1Mbit up being served from here...
Looks pretty good all the way around for most folks.
    Thanks

From Bok's homeland (N.E. England) I show 1147 down/173 up on a theoretically unlimited 22Mb ADSL line with 712kb upload. Unfortunately, I have to run via an 8Mb exchange to the backbone high speed 24Mb converted exchange so my usual max of 7Mb down matched by capped 750Kb up is reasonable. Ping times can get a bit stupid tho' compared to when I had Telewest cable (now rebranded Virgin Media as NTL won the domination battle but their name stinks in the UK) so gaming can be a total pain. If I wanted to reinstate the fibre, I could have unlimited 40Mb download (max is around 120Mb theoretical) and 1Mb up with excellent pings to almost everywhere (except Taiwan ) but the price is £30 ish plus another service.
Like an ol` 8086, slow but serviceable.

I just tested it to the recommended location(Plano, Texas) 468/61 kb(kilobytes)/sec

    477/60 to Atlanta, Georgia

    453/56 (ul/dl)to Japan

Oddly, the location doesn´t seem to make a difference.

Btw, what´s up with Beyond´s connection? I´d love to have all that upload bandwidth.

Is says your test has expired and you need a new version.

Its working again. Through an SSH tunnel'd proxy I'm getting:
    966 down, 742 up
and with the closest "full" test site I get:
    962 down, 786 up

Not bad considering the encryption and proxy through a remote machine. I should be getting around 8000 down and 1000 up from the main test site from my home system without the proxy. I will try that tonight.

No improvement just the same speed when I retested it although when I 1st tried it, it was saying download speed of 512k and upload of 200k - stupid freaking thing, I blame a few MS updates.
