After the failure to get the updates, it goes back to crunching an old protein.
I have the www.distributedfolding.org line in my /etc/hosts file (no DNS), and it seems to be able to contact that site, since it gets the incorrect protein message.
Is there a different site that needs to be in there for the updates? I thought as of a couple of weeks ago, only the one site was needed.

Adding those to /etc/hosts made no difference.
The Unix box can find those servers, but something else is blocking the updates.
You can always download the update manually if auto-update doesn't work for you and you don't have a lot of machines.

Well, if that was all I wanted to to, I wouldn't have opened this thread.
I was looking for some help in why the automatic update wouldn't work, when everything else seems to work fine. It's happy sending results, just can't get the right answer from your servers for the updates.
If you know what you are doing, you could try running a packet sniffer next time there's an update and see what you get, but that's about all I could suggest. Otherwise double check you have those names and IPs all spelt correctly in your hosts file, that's the most likely cause is it can't find them (can you ping them all from your command line?) The software is not really optimal for running on a machine with no DNS service.
