Thread: Sieve Cleanup

    Sieve Cleanup

I'm slowly working through some of the older ranges that have been abandoned for a while. It is stated on the front page of the sieve reservation that 'We will release any reservation that has not been updated in 90 days, or finished in 120 days.'

So if you have a range in progress and haven't done anything with it for a while then finish it or place a note on the range please!

I would like to abandon my range, but don't want the new owner doing unnecessary work. If I click on the words that say I've abandoned the range, will I get an opportunity to comment on the partial completion?

  3. #3
If I opt to take it on then you can just tell me the information I will need, which range are you talking about?

    Matt and others,

I will take all old and abandon ranges.

Please pm me the checkpoints etc and I will take them for there.

I'm trying to get in touch with some people about their ranges, if they are abandoning them I'll pass them on to you - thanks

    No Problem,

Some of those old ranges are pretty small, probably don't have any factors and are done... but I can check them quickly.

If nothings found we can just mark them as done.

If I find something well we can wait and see what they say

I commented on my range in the reservation system at sierpinskisieve.com, but I'll say so here as well that I'm not sure why I didn't mark it as complete months ago. When I get around to checking my old factor files I will mark it as finished, or do
    the remaining work.

Thanks Joe, do we know anything about the two outstanding ranges for KWSN-SpongeBobSquarePants?

    12303100-12303600
    12303600-12304100

I'll ask him over at our forum. Apparently he had some trouble submitting the results, so I told him where to submit them if he still has them.

The factors he gave me are for the old 149 range, not the 1230. I'd say it would pretty safe to open those 2 ranges up, unless you'd like me to work through them?

  14. #14
It would be easier if someone could take them on in one block rather than it being split automatically between people, are you happy to take them on?

    I can do that range.
When in doubt, kick it until it works.

    Thanks, much appreciated

Have you got anywhere with this?

I've PMed Krizp a couple of times about this and don't seem to be getting any response as to the status of this range. If I don't get a response to this post I think we should look to reassign this range to another user, do we have any potential volunteers?

The range we're looking at is 12304600-12306600 so it's a decent size for someone to take on. I'm also happy if there's a couple of people who want to take half each.

EDIT: I've just noticed that KriZp also has another very large range reserved, we could really do with getting in touch with him if possible.

Started sieving 12304600-12305600. doesn't look like you'll get an answer out of him :P

  22. #22
ok... well i hope we do get an answer out of him because the other range is 5 times larger than the range you have just taken on...

  23. #23
sorry for being so out of touch, I've been putting off the task of powering up old computers and checking sieve folders for quite some time. The second range is being worked on, but on a much slower computer than I originally had in mind. I'll get to it.

    from the log file:
    Wed May 21 13:57:05 2008 sr2sieve 1.7.9 started: 991 <= n <= 49999997, 12304863208843501 <= p <= 12306600000000000
    Mon Jun 2 20:22:57 2008 sr2sieve 1.7.9 stopped: at p=12305550583073911 because SIGHUP was received.
Mon Jun 2 20:22:57 2008 Found factors for 3 terms in -2829179.767 sec. (expected about 4.09)

Apparantly this computer was rebooted in early june of last year. I suppose all is well then, except Appeldorf will be doing duplicate work for most of his range.. I can start the sieving of the rest of this range at once if you want.

  25. #25
I can just stop the sieving since it seems you're further along than i am

  26. #26
KriZp: Please continue cruching through these ranges and keep us updated on your progress, you can edit the comments to the ranges on the reservation site with your current progress.

  27. #27
I'll start it right away then.

I'm trying to get in touch with mpower0 who has the next lowest outstanding ranges after KriZp. They are quite substantial ranges and I would appreciate hearing from him soon.

  29. #29
    Anyone know anything about mpower0?

  30. #30
Do you know if he's in a team? If yes, you could contact the team on their forum. If not, I would say someone else takes that range and finishes it.

    I volunteer if needed. :-)

Edit: Are you sure it's mpower0 and not mgpower0? In that case, crunchers inc. is the place to look:

    Matt,

I see that a range has been abandoned now. It would be really nice if your webpage could tell about abandoned ranges at the "reserve range" page.

That way, if an abandoned range is 450G, we could reserve that 450G and get a whole range instead of reserving 400G and leaving 50G for the next poor soul.

Hope this wasn't too confusing and that you understood what I meant! :-)

I think the available range page is only accessible to admins at the moment, but that is the size of the range in this instance anyway.

  35. #35
    Thanks both of you. :-)

Matt: That page is not in the "menu" when I log in, but I am able to see it if I go directly to the URL posted by Joe without logging in.

  36. #36
By coincidence I was looking for that very page yesterday, out of curiosity, but couldn't find a link. I remembered seeing a link somewhere on the page sometime earlier though.

  37. #37
Matt: looks like the old range is becoming complete. Please let us know if you need any more help to finish off any ranges in there.

My registration has still not been approved on their forum, does anyone else have a login for that forum so we can get in touch with him? Or does anyone know another way to get in touch?

EDIT: Have PMed him from this forum and emailed him for the second time, guess I'll have to wait and see!

I've PM'd him on his forum(Crunchersinc). I'll let you know when he responds.

I've started crunching his smaller range, can we start lining up a candidate to take over the larger range, it's 5G.
