SIMAP March Workunits On Their Way

New Workunits: the calculation of similarities and features of approx. 200.000 new sequences, that were imported from protein databases into SIMAP in February, will start in the evening (UTC) of February 28th.
The March workunits have been released for processing. 200,000 workunits is only going to last 2-3 days!

Each workunit takes about an hour to process and we are still languishing in 45th place. If you have some spare capacity this week please give it over to SIMAP.

    Hi IB,

This was a 'heads up' post.
They only release work at the start of the month. The March units are coming VERY soon (in the next 24 hours).

    Then we can

Got an interesting message on one of my boxes :

01/03/2009 2:52:52 AM boincsimap Message from server: (won't finish in time) BOINC runs 100.0% of time, computation enabled 100.0% of that
Bit of a confusing message methinks

The limited work units are getting eat up so fast, if you are not there right when there is work to do, you miss out.
Most of my boxen have something to do now.

dunno. It's a bug for a long time - as you can see with this test... the php shows correctly what I put in.

    Code:
    This is a test
    This is a test
    This is a test
    This is a test
    PHP Code:
    This        is        a         test
    This        is        a         test
    This        is        a         test
    This        is        a         test
I'm not sure why the php box has added so much to the end of the line..

This is what happens to the TAB formatted text when not using either

    This is a test
    This is a test
    This is a test
    This is a test
    using code
    Code:
01/03/2009 2:52:52 AM boincsimap Message from server: (won't finish in time) BOINC runs 100.0% of time, computation enabled 100.0% of that
    not using code
01/03/2009 2:52:52 AM boincsimap Message from server: (won't finish in time) BOINC runs 100.0% of time, computation enabled 100.0% of that

    /getting off-topic

Both show up the same spacing, just the PHP code has the box...imo, the code tag looks nice - no extra box around the text and keeps the spacing...

Pasted both the PHP and Code "test" lines into a text editor and come out the same; pasting the BOINC message into a text editor shows the what that code tagged bit says; tagging it as PHP code just adds the box (and scroll bars for me - making it harder to see than if it was code tagged )

Pic to show what I mean:

    Bit curious really

It looks like they have about 450,000 units available this month

We have a real chance to move up the rankings!

    Brilliant!

pfb, why do you have two id's in SIMAP stats?
    61d5689c373e1059d7e8362df6be952e
    dfc5efb9c504996bcec2555f3a0a8ef4

Also, your output for those quads should be closer to 1,000.
Something fishy or just getting started late?

I show ~1,250 for quad at 2.66GHz and the dual core at 3.1GHz each.

I reckon the main SIMAP workunits will dry up in the next 2 days. Then another day or so to complete the hmmer workunits.

We've had a good run on SIMAP this time (big thanks to IB ) - gained a place and got a lot closer to the top teams. I perfectly understand if folk need to switch power back to Spinhenge.

1 is my old account that I forgot the email/password for - there's a few dotted around

Quad aren't at 100% either - around 20% atm; just felt it was better for 20% for quads than for my duals/single cores

We gained another place yesterday Free-dc are #43

The progress stats on the main site seem to have frozen so it is hard to judge how far we are through this month's work. My boxes are running the hmmer workunits now. These are run at the end of the batch so maybe we are only a day or so away from the finish.

    Hi Death,

They had a website problem yesterday and the batchmonitor.php hasn't moved since

Right now, my boxes are crunching workunits from the 9030105 batch, once this batch is complete workunits are going to run out very quickly.

Phew! We are now onto the 9030108 batch, the last batch of work for March.

Sorry my initial estimates of 2-3 days to complete were so far out, SIMAP usually doesn't issue so many hmmer workunits

We are currently #42 and might even make it to #41 before the end - EXCELLENT!

Better start preparing to move back to Spinhenge for the run-in...
