Very long. 12 to 28 hours on a q6600. Flate rate credit of 2312 per WU for the PPS seive WUs. The problem is that only WUs downloaded and returned during the challenge count. That means that only work downloaded after 18:00 utc 18 Dec. (13:00 eastern time) will count. It does not help if you have a large cache. I've set mine to connect every 0 days and maintain additional work for 0 days.

We're at #31 for total credit and closing rapidly on Boinc@heidelberg.

Tried running the sieve jobs on a CPU, they are quite slow.
    Probably 12 hours on a q6600.
Assuming you have 4 jobs running in parallel then it should be possible to do 8 a day.
    Around 18K cobblestones per q6600/day

Long term i wouldn't use a CPU to sieve, video cards do it so much better.
However for the duration of the challenge it would be worth doing if someone had lots of CPU's

All cards running and one more little trick to setup tomorrow.

ATIs are fine but there is a possible CUDA problem. If you have the Cuda 1.36 application running, you need to do a reset to get the 1.37 application.

I'll do my best to make as much credit as possible.
After all this is a team effort.

I see that you brought the big guns. Not much chance of me beating that.

With all the prepration for the challenge the team is now at #26 for total credit.

Next victims: Dutch Power Cows and TeAm AnandTech.

    OOPS!!
Showed my hand a little early.

What's the ETA on the DPC overtake ?

Over the years i have learned that it is not wise to prod the cows !
Best to sneak past in the dark.
Bit late now, one of them is bound to read this thread.

    BTW
It's freezing outside and snowed earlier yet i am sweating indoors with the windows open.
GPU's are powerful all right but they run hot and cost a lot to feed.
Don't expect this level of participation long term.

    Cow tipping complete.

We've got the same weather here. Today at the shop I had the windows open, the heat off and it was still 28c inside. I'm lucky since I don't have to pay for the juice that makes them run. Winters are toasty but in the summer, I have to shut some of it down.

    Gang,
I'm on site at my customer location and have only my laptops here. They are putting up some numbers (PLEASE DON'T LAUGH)..... but I'm doing what I can in sub-zero (F) temps. Power is too unstable to bring up the big boxen in spite of the nice heat I would get. I have 2 (of 3 possible, but 3 saturates the DDR3) AMD cores in the N850 Ph II w/ 1 ATI 57xx integrated GPU and the Sony/nVidia laptop (c2d v2 on FC-13).... The nVidia is not CUDA23 compatible so I'm just running PPS sieves (CPU) as best I can. Hope this helps... the day is 3/4 over as I write this and I have my largest production day in Pgrid history so far.... a few more thousand credits to come. Again, hope it helps. AMDs and GPUs sieve nice, Intels and GPUs are nice for LLR. DDR5 main mem would be sweet but not yet too practical in a laprock.

Seasons Greetings to all, may you be safe and happy!!!

    Cheers,
    Chuck

I'm coming. It just takes my steam loco a while to build up speed unlike your bullet train. You're right I did have some older WUs but since all my rigs are at work, I set the cache as low as possible and just have to wait for them to run out. The last time I checked, I was at #91 and on the move.

Great to see you guys in the comps again!

    PS -
was that a truck full of ALICE that I just saw pulling into your place on the satellite, PCZ?
I saw the market price go up but I thought it was just my imagination. LOL

    The team has done well.
Looks likely we will finish in the top 20, (16th)

Considering how few in number we are thats a great result.

    ALICE
    as in alice springs ie:water

It's snowing in the UK at the moment, mother nature is providing a plentiful supply of freezing cold air to cool the GPU's.

What are the final standings for each of the contributors ? I'm curious how this laptop gpu has done (yes, just 1 GPU running)

    C.

    Edit: per last update @ 23:16 Z , I got knocked down a few places (a mere 3 WUs)

Edit: As the Validator cleans up the WUs in the queue, it seems I gained back 1..... one can hope for more

No. Although that would be topical given the inclement antipodean weather that we are experiencing.

What I am referring to is Aluminium-Ice Propellant
    It's very hot stuff

The 2011 challenge series is going to kickoff on 3 Feb at 18:00 UTC and run for 3 days. This one will be PPS (LLR) a CPU only subproject (Lauren ). All hungry CPUs are welcome.

Average WU time is about 10 minutes.

    Thumbs up

My congrats to whomever broke it...... it's not often PG fails to respond to a simply refresh but easily understandable given the DB state that PG can't keep up with you big guns (CPU = 30+ on Xeons). All I can say is I will keep my going while you experts hit it with the good

PS: got the ATI SDK installled in 64 bit linux and think I might be able to join you soon with my GPUs.

    239 - Bok
    251 - Outlnder

Not surprised... My score indicates I've done nothing, but I turn in at least 3 every 2 mins. I haven't bothered to check what's in pending... it's gotta be outrageous.

Just checked... they've also got the backlog off... Oh well, it's not like the CPU load indicators are showing it as idle.

Edit: Going to post/edit our stats update every 8 hrs or so unless requested otherwise. Anyone needing the link it's here

Hmmmmm, interesting... based on what I see and knowing I get about 4.5 credits/WU under normal circumstances, we shouldn't be falling so far behind unless we are REALLY that low-powered or prefs are mis-configured somewhere... I did double-check mine. It's behaving like it's lagging somewhere, just wish I could figure it out... I KNOW you should not have lost so much ground... it looks like you lost a serious bunch of machines and that's just not possible.

Edit: if it doesn't start to validate it, it won't jump in the 'pending' column. It has to at least check the WU status code before it computes the pending..... i may be wrong as this is a special config set for high volume.

Anyone doing the next challenge: Marie-Sophie Germain, April 1-3?

I'll be running my Q6600 on it for the 48 hr duration.

No GPU client for this, so the GTX 460s will keep working on PPS Sieve...
