I'm working on that!Originally posted by rshepard
Got to have a small input buffer to start with tho, or you'll draw stibnite's proxy down in one shot

currently, my uplink is us.v29.distributed.net, but it seems like a slooow fill. My linespeed is absolutely, positively NOT a bottleneck... So is this normal? Is there a faster upstream queue for me to use?
That is normal for OGR, also remember we are pulling from your proxy at the same time so will take quite sometime to fill.
-:Beyond:-
I dunno; I ran a proxy on a miniscule pipe 18months ago that filled faster than this.... Of course, it only had 35Ghz behind it, i suppose....
Another question: Given what I've read in the forums about OGR-24 being the only blocks handed out at the moment, should i keep my queue from becoming TOO deep in these blocks, in order prevent a backlog of OGR-24-only blocks after they start giving out 25's again?
Am I obsessing too much?
2003-04-15 07:12:24,ogr r=12373/200000, d=0/3, 544.6 Mnodes/sec, tot=5319/1181 stubs
Of course not. You can never be too obsessed with a Distributed Computing project. Addicted maybe, but never obsessed.Am I obsessing too much?
2003-04-15 08:00:27,ogr r=14378/200000, d=0/3, 532.9 Mnodes/sec, tot=5422/1263 stubs
Sigh.
I believe the problem with filling the queue is that us.v29.distributed.net is a "round robin" proxy net work and they still have thier own buffers set to a relatively low number of stubs, being use to OGR-25 stubs taking longer to proocess therefore fewer needed. As you and many others are trying to pull increasing numbers of stubs they are having to pull more from the "main" keyserver. Once you fill the queue then all should settle down. I know it took me about 24hrs to finally get to the 12000 I set my proxy too.
As too the number needed (buffers) that is really up to you, The more the merrier I say, why? This should be the last run on OGR-24 (the verification run) so whereever we end up in the stats it will be set in stone (supposedly). We know from the pervious run that OGR-24 has a small "keyspace" if you will, therefore the more we have cached when they quit sending them out could make a big difference where we end up in the stats.
OGR-25 will continue for some time as the 1st run/pass has yet to be completed, alot of time to climb the ranks.
/edit/ One more point though, if we see that they start handing out OGR-25 stubs again, we will need to back off the number the buffers are set too, would not want to get caught with that many OGR-25 stubs. /edit/

As of this morning I'm getting 25's
beginning at 9:53AM, I'm receiving these almost exclusively
2003-04-15 09:53:27,server: Received ogr stub 25/3-6-7-25-20-1
2003-04-15 09:53:27,server: Received ogr stub 25/3-6-7-25-20-2
2003-04-15 09:53:27,server: Received ogr stub 25/3-6-7-25-20-8
2003-04-15 09:53:27,server: Received ogr stub 25/3-6-7-25-21-1
Cut my maxcache value and wait for more 24's?

I'll crunch whatever your proxy throws my way, because it says my "mother was a snowblower!"

never mind...I guess that's the dnet keyserver
So I've set the proxy to hold off on new block downloads, and serve out what its got for now.

Despite my bitching, it does seem to fill pretty quick, So when I open the upstream floodgates again, we should be all good in this here hood
I would cut it back if you are getting OGR-25's exclusively, they take much longer to crunch. Thanks for grabbing as many 24's as you did, should prove worth the time and effort in the stats.

Glad to see you are up to your usual productiont here Beyond
OGR-24 Overall Rank: 83 (up 9) Yesterday: 8 (up 13)

Great job team
Still only handing out 25's today.

25's or not..we made it into the Top 100 ... That counts for a lot
/me proud to be crunching with Free-DC

And: Thanks stibnite that you are running the proxy with its stats!
Yeah! Handling out OGR-25's! That means that we continue climbing up the OGR-25-ladder! But we can't climb up at OGR-24... Top 20 would have been nice
the-mk
That is fine, with any luck we should have enough OGR-24's to hit the top 50. After all is said and done, the chance to get where we are in OGR-24 was a stroke of luck anyway as the project has been all but over for quite sometime now.Originally posted by stibnite

One more adjustment may be in order though, Max Stubs Done may need to be adjusted to a lower level since the OGR 25's take much longer to process. Otherwise we may miss some uploads near the end of each day that would show some of the smaller crunchers production for the day.

How many Macintosh's you got crunching on OGR?
I have two, but the numbers (for Macintosh OS/PowerPC) jumped so much today you must also have at least two running .. right?

Do you people realize we were #3 in daily production yesterday? We might be #2 today...
Now..more than half of that is Beyond and his farm but still...good contributioin from the Team
Looking forward to seeing what we can do once the new DF starts back up...assuming the OGR crew feels we've supported the cause well enoukgh

It's been a great ride so far

 #2 of yesterdays production: not bad, not bad!
Team Free-DC
Yesterday I couldn't flush the amount I flush usually because my internet-connection was down and I couldn't fetch any workunits

Still giving out 25's.

Yeah....
I have only been getting 25s for the past day, but I ain't complaining.
As long as I get to crunch something for the Team, I will be happy
Go Team go! Roll till we get to the Top 100
I'm still getting a mixture of 24's and 25's
My clients are crunching OGR-24's. My last OGR-25 was on 15th of april... I fetch my work only from proxy.dp.cx...
How far will we go in Team-stats with OGR-24? Top 60, Top 50, Top 40, Top 30 or better? It would be nice if the proxystats could differ between OGR-24 and OGR-25...

RED ALERT! Sound the alarm
Remember to stay strong Soldier! Be prepared for anything and everything.
We will be here when you get back
That means I have a slim chance of gaining on you! My plan is working!
BTW, great production Beyond. I agree though, borg that box.
Guess the wieght is back on our shoulders to keep the team production over 35T a day without Beyond's production for the weekend. We can do it
Chinasaur, I have two mac's but for now all I'm using is the G3 350 Imac/toaster/noise maker.
guru
Well it is even worse than I feared, change of plans "they" are coming here. ....the silver lining...machines back on line.
Just noticed the stats for today..2nd day in a row that we took the 2nd place position on daily production. Total output was down considerable across the board, due to it being a holiday for alot of folks (?) or everyone's cache of OGR-24 stubs is running out?

Dude, this Team made a killing in OGR 24 yesterday. Congrats to everyone!
Unfortunately, I have yet to get any OGR 24 as everytime I update, I continually get OGR 25 stubs. Pissing me off!
How do you guys do it? Any hints to get OGR 24 stubs so that at least I can help out the team ?
I'm afraid they have all but been passed out, however if you point your clients to the stibnite's proxy (proxy.dp.cx) I believe he still has some cached.
-:Beyond:-
I'm sure that stibnite has some OGR-24's on his proxy. Where else do you think do I get my OGR-24's?
the-mk
I'm getting plenty of 24's from the proxy
As of the 19th we are #50 Overall in OGR-24 and #2 in daily production for the third day in a row!!
Very trick!!
