firewall problem

hi,

I tried following the instructions on the Team Prime Rib FAQ for how to connect to the Seventeen or Bust server from behind a firewall, but it still does not connect.

Can anyone offer any further help?

Here are the instructions that I followed and I tried using both of the suggested ports:
"If you are behind a firewall that filters the port the server uses, change the server to be sbp.pns.net and the port to be either 22 or 80, since those are commonly unfiltered (ssh and http, respectivly)." (credit Alien88 [Mike Garrison])

But others of us are behind a firewall that blocks all ports period. The only way to get out is through a http proxy server.

How about a client that reports through http and has proxy server settings (or can use the system default)?

I take it that this means that if I am in a similar situation, then the only thing I can do is wait for such functionality to be built into the Seventeen or Best.

On the other hand, I can use standard ftp clients to go outside my company. So there must be something open here.

Feel free to join the sieving effort. Only access to a web browser is required, and even then data could be moved around manually.

There are 2 other programs you can use:

SobSieveConsole - console version; a tad faster on some systems

NBeGon - for Non-Win32 systems

Both need a file which is included in the download of the first linked page.


Utility:
PminEraser - Java application that erases some unwanted lines of the SobSieveConsole output file


For getting work, you have to reserve a sieving range in this thread: http://www.free-dc.org/forum/showthr...&threadid=2406
and enter the range into the program.

When completed, just enter the results into the text field of this page:
http://www.seventeenorbust.com/sieve/

Note: You have to be logged into the SoB page (not the forum) to get your work credited.

Is this warning of any significance (well, I'm sure that it is of "some" significance, but you know what I mean. Maybe.)?

AFAIR, this message is displayed once the numbers are getting too large. But that is not the case in your sieving range. Did you type in "11800" as start and "11900" as end? If yes, I don't have any clue what might have gone wrong.

Welcome to the sieving Alan.

AFAIK, this was encountered when SoBSieve v1.22 was introduced, and Paul wrote the reason (I copied it below as well). I'm not really sure, but I don't remember seeing it again in the later versions (v1.24, v1.25, or the console version) I am using.

This is not a big problem anyway, but I think version 1.24 is faster (and SoBconsole is even a few percent faster than 1.24). Which version are you using?

As for the message WARNING: 64 bit integers are badly aligned as qwords!, this is only a warning and while the software will run fine, it will just not be as fast as possible. This is something that I intend to fix today, if I can - it is probably just a few instructions to the compiler.
