I had TWO network outages today!!!
Was able to get one back up after 12 hours or more, thanks to my brothers heroic efforts!
Still have one down here, and I don't know why yet?
Will have to wait until I find out from www.DSLExtreme.com what they did to my main IP 66.51.209.61, which is not working !!! :bs:
All my computers behind the firewall, on that IP, are toast until tomorrow evening sometime...

    Congratulations to Condor
He was the clear winner on the Free-DC Team

  20. #60
Heh, only because I had far fewer problems than most.

Ironbits and Angus had great runs also.
The important thing is that the team moved up about 30 places
during those four weeks. So congrats to all !!!

Well, I'm not going to stand for us having dropped from 86th place to 88th place over the last couple of days. That is, if I can manage to do anything about it... Let's see what a couple of P4's running over the weekend can do for us here...

Well, the one I had running on the mail server caused it to crash, so I moved it over to OGR instead.
So now it's three on OGR and 2 on FAH, for now...

You need to get the BETA 3.25 client (not really a beta, but fixes a bug so it will use SSE on AMD XP processors)
    http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/beta/beta.html

Then use the following command line to FORCE it to use SSE
    FAH3console.exe -advmethods -forceasm -local

Gromacs will be handed out IF you use the above command line.
You want to get EM to monitor the client(s) to
    www.em-dc.com

Each 2 GHz should be good for at least 33 points per 24hrs.

    Stats are here
    http://stats.zerothelement.com/cgi-b...rs.pl?team=758
    here
    http://marcc.no-ip.org/ter/userstatsfdc.php
or here, if it's not down temporarily for stats updating

    IB
33 PPD from an Athlon XP 2400 is a bit low. If the current Gromacs are scoring that low then I think I will pass.

    3.25 beta (unmarked)
    --------------------
    - If -forceasm is used, then on every execution of the core until the
client is restarted, SSE optimizations will be used if possible (if
the chip is an AMD chip, then be default, without the flag, it would
not be chosen over 3DNow). Prior to this client, this effect would have
held true only for the first work unit run after starting the client.

What is the difference between sse and 3dnow? Only one can be used at a time?
And how exactly do I put in this flag?

    I saw this,
Then use the following command line to FORCE it to use SSE
    FAH3console.exe -advmethods -forceasm -local

but I am missing something, not doing something right.

I started this beta and it is using 3dnow. Can it be edited after it has started?

    Thanks.

Yes! Stop the client and run FAHconsole.exe -config
You need to re-configure it, say YES to change Advanced Options, choose FAH only etc.
I just ran it again for you to see what you need to put in there

    My responses are in BOLD
    Code:
    FAHconsole -config

User name [IronBits]? IronBits <-- change to yours, or not ;)
    Team Number[758]? 758
Ask before fetching/sending work [no] (yes/no)? no
Use Internet Explorer Settings [yes] (yes/no)? yes
Change advanced options [no] (yes/no)? yes
    Client Type [fah] (no-pref/fah/gah)? fah
    Core Priority [low] (idle/low)? low
    CPU usage requested [100]? 100
Disable highly optimized assembly code [no] (no/yes)? no
Ignore deadline information (mainly useful if...) no
...system clock frequently has errors)? [no] (no/yes)? no
    Machine ID (1-4) [1]? 1

Client takes off from here and shows...

[19:01:14] - Ask before connecting: No
[19:01:14] - Use IE connection settings: Yes
    [19:01:14] - User name: IronBits (Team 758)
[19:01:14] - User ID = 4373E4977BF0A512 <--- This HAS to be different for each client
    [19:01:14] - Machine ID: 1
    [19:01:14]
[19:01:14] Work directory not found. Creating...
    [19:01:14] Loaded queue successfully.
    [19:01:14] + Benchmarking ...
The STOP the client and run it with
    FAHconsole -advmethods -forceasm -local

How did you start the program?
If you have a shortcut just add the flags to it.
right click on the shortcut and select properties.

If you are running the program in a command window just press control C
    to stop it.
    Restart using FAH3console -advmethods -forceasm
this will turn on SSE. If you are using version 3.25 it will stay using SSE when that protein is done. If you have version 3.24 it will revert back to 3dnow.

If you started the program without the flags you might have got a Tinker WU
they take ages to crunch and the points awarded are very low in comparision to the Gromacs.

The reason people use the advmethods flag is to increase the likelyhood of getting the more desirable Gromac WU's.
They were in Beta for a while and advmethods is the public beta test flag.

    Thank you IB, PCZ.
    SSE is on.
I was using this-FAH3console.exe -advmethods -forceasm -local
I needed this-FAH3.25-Console-beta -advmethods -forceasm -local

Darn- I shut off the client before checking the times. But, with 3DNow, 34 out of 100 units completed in 10 hrs. about 17 min each. With sse a unit is taking 8.5 min.

[QUOTE]How did you start the program?
If you have a shortcut just add the flags to it.
right click on the shortcut and select properties.

Tried this but did not see how at first. Now I see. This is the main reason I'm here, to learn.

Most people rename the 3.25 executable to FAH3console.exe. Sorry I forgot to mention that.

    Thumbs up

Main reason to rename the exe is to keep shortcuts and service installs (made with pks excellent installer ) working without undue fuss.
nice to see FDC starting to move again
    Cheers,
    Marc

I have to reinstall windows every 30 days, did that today and put fah on two machines. I really had a problem last time with this beta and flags.Sometimes it would not configure from the console and I made sure my i's were dotted and t's crossed.

Anyway, I downloaded Firedaemon to run fah as service and put the flags in the parameter box and that is so simple!!

One machine is only folding. The second is my main computer, and it did crash a couple times right away. Lowered the fsb a couple points, that did not help. Changed priority from low to idle and cpu usage from 100% to 95%. Working now.
