power outage crash help!

[NULL_CAPTION] FATAL ERROR: [000.000] Illegal file fouund in upload list hit return

I had a power failer and when I try to restart (foldit.bat) I get this error. Am I going to have to reinstall or can I salvage the work?

Let me see the filelist.txt please (e-mail or post here and XXX out your handle) You will probably have to restart most likely but I gotta see it to know for sure. Id like to see it ayhow though. Thanks.

It's a good thing for me that Howard doesn't filter participation in DF by IQ.

When I open the filelist.txt I find there is nothing in it. This could explain the error message uh

Can the filelist be rebuilt like in the last client?

Yes, that would explain the error Maybe you erased it accidentally?? Anyways no you cannot rebuild it, you must restart. If you figure out WHY it got erased, and it turns out to be our fault, please let us know!

Umm... he said why it got erased in the title of the thread -- his system was hit with a kill -9 from the power company.

It looks like there is a window of vulnerability between when filelist.txt is emptied to prepare it for update, and when that update is actually written. The powerfailure hit in that window, and left him with an empty filelist.txt file.

I doubt that's what happened. The chances of the power going just at the moment it was writing out that file are infinitesimal. There's probably a subtle bug buried here (related to impropoer termination of the client). We will investigate...

I guess I should buy a lottery ticket. My dfGUI writes a .gen file every so often, it opens the file, truncates it, then writes the data to it. All of that happens in a matter of ms too but I was lucky enough that my computer hard booted on me at that exact time and my .gen file was empty.

I've had the same thing happen.

Today was computer fit day, and I had 3 machines crash on me, and I shut down and moved 2 machines, as well as reformatted one.

5 machines have had errors, 2 of those required me to wipe the whole dir and reinstall.

errors are things like this
