    Another Windows Error

    Using Windows XP, the client is installed as a service. It is having a problem with calculations after gen 107 has been completed. I'm not seeing any of the error messages other posts are listing.

    ========================[ Jul 29, 2003 6:04 AM ]========================
    ERROR: [777.000] {ncbi_socket.c, line 1258} [SOCK::s_Connect] Failed pending connect to www.distributedfolding.org:80 (Unknown) {errno=No such file or directory}
    ERROR: [777.000] {ncbi_connutil.c, line 801} [URL_Connect] Socket connect to www.distributedfolding.org:80 failed: Unknown

    Just a connection problem? It ran fine for another 26 hours. Now when I try to run it I get a WinXP error message saying that foldtrajlite.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. There are no error messages in the command window, it closes immediately.

    If you run it by double clicking on the foldit.bat in the distribfold directory it will probably give you more of a clue what is going on.

    I have tried that, it doesn't give any message.

    The error message is 'normal' and just means it couldn't connect to the server for whatever reason, one time. As for the crashing, please describe the last thing (or first thing) you see on the screen before it crashes.

    Also try temporarily renaming filelist.txt to filelist.bak and see if it still crashes. If this 'fixes' it, please let us see your filelist.bak (remove your handle from it before posting it of course).

    Renaming filelist.txt did get it started again (at version 0 of course).

    When starting in visible mode it says calculating 108 trajectory distribution (or something similar to this) with the progress bar. When the progress reaches 100 it crashes.

    Here is the bugged filelist.txt

    .\fold_1_handle_0_handle_protein_106.log.bz2
    .\handle_1_handle_protein_106_0000003.val
    .\fold_1_handle_20_handle_protein_107.log.bz2

    I got the same error on a different machine. The client started back up. I didn't have to rename filelist.txt.

    This may have something to do with my virus scanner, I got home and the virus scanner had finished it's run. The foldtrajlite.exe error message was on top. I seem to remember the virus scanner having just run on my other machine when it crashed the other day.

    If it happens again and you cannot continue without changing filelist.txt (i.e. it repeatedly crashes) please follow up here and zip up the directory somewhere so we could grab it, that would be the easiest way to tell you what is wrong since this seems to be a 'new' bug. You could stick it on a web site or ftp site if you have access to one or a Yahoo Briefcase or Xdrive for example. Send a note to trades@mshri.on.ca to tell us where the ZIP is when you have one.

    Thanks.

    Error at the same offset, and while doing trajectory calculation. Zipped up and waiting for examination...

    Can you put the zip in one of the stated places, otherwise I can send you a Personal Message on this board with an e-mail to send it to if you know how to check PMs here?

    Brian, the file is on my FTP - I just e-mailed you on the above addy with the details. Any problems in getting the file, PM me.

    I'm familiar with the procedure.

    Thanks.

    I copied the whole folder that was giving error (this was on Epox 8rda+) to other two systems (one K7S5A, other K7S8X), and ran it there.

    Same error occured. So, it doesn't seem to be system dependant, and it doesn't seem overclocking has anything to do with it.

    The other two systems didn't experience this error at all.

    Just found another error, that happened few days ago as well.

    This time it is at offset 0x00048cd6, but restarting the client permits it to continue. Again, there is no error in error.log...

    What buggers me is that those things occur only on Epox 8RDA+, maybe because it manages to crunch much faster then the other systems over here.

    Similar errors have been reported on Team OCW, but always with error.log entries.

    I had this error too. So far changing the filelist.txt to .bak is working. Here is a copy from the .bak file:

    This had been running fine on my system for awhile. I just checked it today to see that it crashed. The system it is running on is a p4 2.4ghz 533fsb proc, Shuttle SN51G I think it is, with 512mb pc2700 memory. THe OS is Windows XP pro.

    Looks like my home machine just crashed. Making a new filelist.txt worked again. Here is a copy:

    .\fold_6_[my handle]_0_[my handle]_protein_47.log.bz2

    .\fold_6_[my handle]_45_[my handle]_protein_48.log.bz2
