    sudden dial up problems..

    [ using primitive dialup- modem-- sorry ]
    had begun getting messages
    svchost.exe has generated errors and was being shut down;
    and suddenly modm software?? wasnt working / couldnt download stuff; modem wouldnt disconnect..[ happened on two machines, essentially simultaneously, or within opportunities..

    reloaded win2K on both machines...

    just had a successful dialup session on this machine [ with folding being shutdown]; other machine, though gave me the svchost screwup-message while I was uploading df stuff-- and modem wouldnt shut down...

    any idea what's happening here ?? how to fix ??

    have pretty much accepted the concept of cpu being really taxed while folding and doin other stuff; but my software getting corrupted is another matter ..

    Two seperate computers suddenly started acting up? It's possible that they got hit with the "Blaster" worm that's been causing a lot of people trouble lately:

    I'd certainly look at the worm possiblity first.

    The chances of the DF client messing up your software, and only yours, are pretty remote.

    ...unless you've insulted Howard lately...
