    Cheers Ghost

So EST is UTC -5, we are currently in S so Summer so aren't we then UTC +1.

So converting EST to UTC makes it 11 + 5 and going to BST =1.

Doesn't that make it 5PM for us?

Toio late for me to set up the machines here so I'll be on the old client 'til tomorrow.

Protein switchovers: you will NOT receive any for old proteins after a switchover. This is different from previous rules. This is not permanent but rather is to avoid a rather nasty way of cheating and inflating your stats which we cannot prevent at the moment. As soon as we get measures in place to prevent this potential problem, we will re-institute the 24/48 hour grace period. Although this may be a slight annoyance to some of you, you will hopefully see the wisdom in it, avoiding an even bigger potential annoyance.
This is from the phase II faq. I don't know just how much time you will have.

    Just so you are aware.

If this is the case then

    I am really fubar.

I won't be able to uipload my DF until 19:00 tonight.

100,000 or so points we are talking about.

Now it's not much to some of you but I will be gutted if I lose this just becase of some stat head idiots that may cheat.

    Angry No

The firewall denys access and TBH I don't want to do too much probing. I am quite happy with my offline to CDRW to online machine at home to upload.

Requires a bit of labour but it is extremely unintrusive to the work environment.

I am hoping Howard will have the 24 hours grace period in place.

Howard has said about four times now that the standard 48 hour grace period will apply. What Ghost quoted was from the phase I to phase II changeover.

Who, exactly, are the "stat head idiots that may cheat" that you are referring to?

Wink I get a bit edgey after losing 200,000

so wouldn't have wanted all of last nights/today's data going the same way.

The stat head idiots I was referring to are the ones that would look for a way to inflate their points without actually putting in the effort.

There are people who look for ways of cheating in all aspects of online life be it gaming or distributed coomputing, more is the pity. I am sure some may have copied their folders and tried to upload twice just to see if it worked.

Whilst the stats are excellent and provide plenty of good humoured competition there are those who would look for any way to inflate their scores and their obviously damaged egos.

Those are the people I mean.

Not stat hoes like you and me.

No denegration of the great work the stats guys do was ever intended.

Well, I learned long ago that ANY good activity attracts those who want to see it damaged or destroyed. The best you can do is to make sure your own hands and conscience are clean, and act in an honorable way.

I don't know about the cheaters - maybe they are too thick skinned to be bothered by their actions - but *I* never have any trouble sleeping at night so long as I act honorably.... Winning by cheating has got to be a hollow victory....

    Agreed

I've had too many games of UT, Tac Ops and even Kingpin ruined by bug users and cheats.

It's always the innocent parties that suffer the most.

I am sure Howard would rather spend time working on the next client than working on putting in place anti-cheat filters on the server.

Hope the client changeover is smooth and we get a head start on the leviathan that is Ars Technica

Heh! Not sure this is true. Fun comes in many forms!

I can't find the actual posts right now, but Howard has said a couple of times, "Go ahead. Make my day!"

Several ways of subverting the points system have been found and eliminated. However, it certainly is true that Howard's time is more profitably spent working on the science of folding.

Just got the message : Server is down for protein changeover. Please try again later!

It seems like the update should be available anytime soon.

Unfortunately, this is taking my boxes down one by one...

When they go to upload, they are getting the message:

"The client is down for maintenance, please try again later".
    Press Enter to continue....

Aren't they supposed to just realize they can't contact the server and continue on?

I can't fix this on my machines at home until I get home tonight, and my borged boxes (some of which I don't have access to anymore) may never start up and run DF again unless those boxes somehow gets rebooted.

There are actually some rather effective anti-cheat measures already in place. The big obstacle for a potential cheater trying to inflate his stats is the fact that his best RMS is visable to everyone. If someone has huge production numbers over a long period of time but still a horrible RMS, that is a red flag that something fishy is going on with that account. Trying to come up with a way to get a great RMS without geniunely doing all the processing work is a huge potential obsticle to overcome. If the cheater find some way to hack the software and gets an RMS close to zero, he's almost certain to get caugh when Howard examines how he managed to get such a surprising accurate prediction. I'm not particularly worried about cheating in DF.

The new protein in 56 thingies in size, rather than the last one's 96.

I forget just what that represents, but I think it means we are in for some Fast Foldin' !

I'm finding it's ~15% slower @ gen 0- which falls in line with previous experience - the lower the size the slower the prize

Yeah. I don't agree with your formula, even though it rhymes, but this one does indeed seem slower.

It looks like 25 of 26 clients updated automatically.

I think that's a pretty good showing, after the last time...

The linux package is screwed native.val is wrong size.
So my linux nodes are still down.
I didn't let them autoupdate and decided to install the client fresh.
It appears thet the update has the right size native.val but not the full package.

It could be beneficial to disable net access before change over. Client won't shut down because it will not get the 'server down for maintenance' signal, or waste time looking for a connection. Also to see what problems show up.

I was up all night tweaking my boxes and ready at 11 am but after trouble connecting i disabled access. Much easier to wait.

Client sure seems to be running smooth now. Producing very low RMS.

Everything auto updated for me just fine. All 12 boxes made the switch, then.....

3 pc's went down due to unrelated DF problems.

I'm quite impressed with the new client. Fast to.
