ok, got to do this for the experience/knowledge of how the client works if nothing else, so it'll be either a p3-733 or p3-1Ghz , connected to start out with

do i have any stats yet? how do i join the free-dc team?

    I am with ya.
    Sounds like a good project.
    I threw a 1.7 on it.

No teams yet, but it looks like it is on their "to do list..

stats should be easy, since it takes 4-8 weeks to do 1 unit, all they will need for a stats server is a Commodore 64!

    dazm !

    this thing is sloW!
    3.77% done with phase 1 of 3 !

    after 1 day

hmm, can i do the math?

30 days per phase x 3 phases = 90 days for this 1 Ghz P3 to complete one work unit thingy

What? Did you go and get in a hurry all of a sudden?

1.07% done on Phase 1 after 10.5 hours n a P3 500Mhz this project's workunits may prove to be slower than even GIMPS.

On the plus side, you'll only have to check stats every six months or so....

It will be interesting to see how they have worked out the scoring for the statistics, will it be like Seti 1 point per workunit or more along the lines of D2Ol/TSC, or F@H perhaps?

Not exactly a gauntlet DC project , but still worth doing. It will be interesting to see how they work out the stats.

I was going to give up DC altogether. The DF project has severley pissed me off, but my mother seen this project on TV and wanted to know more about it. So she could see the pretty graphics I set the client up on one machine. Have it running on two now and will add another two when I get time.

Hope they get the teams sorted out sooner rather than later so I can feel part of Free-Dc once more.

Could also do with a option for the project in the Free-DC Super Computer.

Did you take your meds today? If it happens again, email me a screenshot, along with a "what I was doing at the time" kinda deal, and I'll look into it.

If you do an nslookup for climateprediction.net
it either fails to return an IP address or gives the IP of the verisign search engine.

It looks like someone has deleted there DNS record, probably a registrar if they have overlooked paying to have it renewed.

    Dont Panic
    Update
The University network is down so the DNS servers are unavailable

I heard a "rumour of a rumour" that the project was dropped - someone also said that they heard that a request was made to have the cached pages at google removed.

I find that really hard to believe, however - it seemed to be well backed and funded... Probably just a ISP/DNS change or some such. Not like there is a big hurry to upload results or anything....

That rumour seems to be false. One of our Ars guys was on the live web broadcast with the people running the project. The University that is hosting the project has their Internet connection down for the moment.

Seems as if its confined to the climateprediction.net assets as I was able to get into the Univ of Oxford site without trouble. I tried to access them thru the atmospheric physics page and got nothing.

Maybe the response was more then they had planned for and are adding new assets to their network.

DG, its actually Open Unversity (http://www.open.ac.uk/) that is hosting the climateprediction web server and it is that university's internet connection which is down.

looks like they are back in business:
    Webservers are back online!

On Friday 19th September, the entire site was unavailable because of a cabling problem somewhere in London on the main cable that links us with the UK university backbone. This problem occurred outside of The Open University, and we had to wait until technicians from JANET and BT fix this unpleasant problem.

The failure has been now fixed, and hopefully will not repeat any time soon. This has been very unusual to happen, and we hope it did not cause too much inconvenience. Thanks for your patience.
