It's the size of the pipe, not the pond.
Another words ADSL/DSL won't do.
T3 or faster might...

I think your 7.5GB a month is probably bits not bytes.
So you wouldn't be able to serve many requests before your bandwidth allocation gets used up.
I believe the next update is going to include a new exe so it will probably be around 3MB thats 24 megabits. So you would be able to serve around 300 requests before you go over your monthly limit.
You could set up the autoupdateproxy to be used by yourself and some of your team mates.
You have to create a file in the Client directory called foldtraj_fileserver.cfg with a single line in it containing the URL of your update proxy.

i'm pretty sure it's mega bytes and not bits, but will soon find out
When you say url of my update proxy, do you mean the new .exe file?
Will this make other people connect to download the file, or only those who have the location of the .exe in the foldtraj_fileserver.cfg file ?
Will I get the file in advance, or would I just do this once i've finally get the update myself?
Would free-dc people be interested in this, if I posted the link to the .cfg file up here as well (probably only in the free-dc team forum)?
hoping to be of some help

How fast is you 'upload' speed?
I have a 4000/384 DSL line, which means on a good day, folks could download at about 30KB/sec.
This would be way to slow...
If it were 1MB/sec upload, maybe it would be ok.
Anything faster than 1MB/sec would be better.

i think you may have misunderstood me, the file etc will be on one of the isp's servers not my home pc.
Even if you haven't misunderstood me I wont be able to tell you the speeds until I actually get the hardware delivered (the line has been activated but we're still waiting for our hardware )

No probs, I should have probably stated that in my original post
so do you think it may be do-able?
I'm guessing definitely for my team (cos there's only 10 members), but do you think free-dc could benefit from it?
I suppose I could always put it up, and then a post in the forums for those who wanted to use it.
As for the file, would I be able to get it in advance, or would I have to wait for it?

7G - OCW
I did something similar on the last protein update for OCW members - about 20 of them used it without any problems.
I'm not sure if you can run deamon on your ISP webspace, though - if not, the only way around it is to run it on your system, and then upload to the ISP webspace whatever deamon gets as a new files (that is what I did).
For more info, please PM me.

Instructions sent.
I have to thank Howard for adding the possibility of getting only the latest version of client update files through Deamon.
This way, the amount of websapce required is minimal (about 10 MB).
Another good thing is that all necessary update files are ready almost 24h before official update starts, so there is plenty of time to update webspace files, thus aiding DF servers and their mirrors during the changeover.
I'm doing it again for the OCW Team, as the last update was more than sucessful.
Thank you again for all your work and understanding, Howard & Co.

The complete Windows package has not yet been released as of this moment - it is due shortly.
All other OSs and the screensaver version are all up for download.
Can't tell you how big is it, as I made an Deamon update from my server.
