    Upload problems

This past few days my DF output has dropped dramaticly, DFGUI would indicate its uploaded but the stats would say otherwise, I tryed unistalling my firewall with no joy, so far I have only checked the machines that have DF installed as a service and use DFgui to monitor, I have another machine that runs the cli without DFgui to monitor that I still have to check, Anyhow I just remembered to check the error.log file and get this in them all for the past few days

I'm not the final authority, but I suspect that you've lost the work. Happens to nearly all of my machines (or at least the last couple that I still have running DF) once a week or so. Everytime a machine quits with a 910 error or invalid co-ordinates error, I put it on something else. Had 14 boxen running DF at the change over. Now have 2... Next week, probably none.

Last I had heard (though I could be wrong), that message is not even an error. It's merely a warning.

I've never lost anything due to it, in either case...

I was getting the 910 errors when the local isp would kick me off the internet to reclaim the ip#; but after the handshaking changes in the new program, I haven't seen that happen again. /e jumps for joy at not having to run all the machines offline anymore..

Once you get several 910 errors in a row (proving that it's not a one time warning) - make a backup of the directory, and start over from gen 0. (either with a newly downloaded client in a new directory - or just wipe out filelist.txt. You can also delete the remaining files that would have been uploaded.) Then ask if Howard and Elena want to see the saved corrupted directories.

The points are unfortunately, lost.. (I don't remember being offered any credit for all the hundreds of missing gens I folded and uploaded.. )

It'll be interesting to see what ends up being the cause of your problem. (i.e. are we soon to have a list of programs you can't run while DF is running?)

Check the error.log file (it's just a plain text file that you can open in notepad or any real () text editor).

You seem to have trouble connecting to us. You mentioned a firewall so perhaps it is interfering with your connection? With the 910 error - how many lines are in your filelist.txt - have you been folding offline or connected all the time? If you have buffered work it should try to upload it all when you connect to the net I think.

Yea ihad a firewall, uninstalled it and ran DF offline for a hour to buffer some units, reconnected to the net and watched the client upload, checked the stats and found that they hadnt updated, checked the error.log and the errors were there for that upload, I have 4 machines with the same problem, they all share the conection from this machine, I checked for virus and round the Randex one on this machine, cleaned that off and did the test again but again with no luck

Have you started over with gen 0 on any of the machines? (are gens still being lost/corrupted?)

Or are you running multiple copies of the same client directory? I.e. did you start DF on one machine for an hour or more.. then copy it to the other machines? If so.. you'll need to delete filelist.txt and start over at gen 0.

Ok, just deleted filelist.txt and ran the test again, after 2 gens i think, it got to #100000 gen, i checked the stats and my total jumped by 50, seems a low amount to upload but it was starting from scratch?
Anyhow gonna try this with my other pcs and see if i can get up and running again.
Can we please have a new protien? this one seems more trouble than its worth?
just started up another client on another box and this is the info from that clients fileliet before i deleted the file list, dunno if this will give any insight into the problem?

After you've deleted filelist.txt and restarted, DF spends an hour or two creating random samples (10,000 of them) for Gen 0. For generations 1-250, DF takes the best structure from the previous generation, and plays with it and tries to make a better structure. It creates 50 structures each for gens 1-250, scores them, and then moves on to the next generation.

If you fold offline or online - and have uploaded to generation 50, when you restart DF it starts working on generation 51. It's not until you get to generation 250 that DF starts over with a new Gen 0. (And DF starts a new Gen 0 after gen 250 whether you upload or not.)

While DF is running, you can take a quick look at "progress.txt" and see what generation you're working on; (if the client is hidden), look at the client (if the client is running in the slower visible mode), or run dfGUI and let it grab the generation number from progress.txt for you.

...and DON'T delete filelist.txt again, unless the client gets into trouble. The higher the generation, the more points ya get!
