For those of you into forum technology and the like, we're migrating away from OpenTopic, towards UBB.x. Those of you who have been with us for a long time likely recall that we once ran the forum on UBB. This new version is light-years away from those olden times (yes, ly is not a measure of distance, I know), and owing to a number of factors, it's more suitable to what Ars needs to grow even more. In any case, the dedicated database server plus the front-end web servers are ready to go, primed with 8GB of RAM and plenty of processing love. We'll have more info as the new forum gets ready to launch.

Excuse me Mr. Caesar, ..but Light Year _ IS _ a measure of distance.

I think you added an extraneous NOT by accident

Agent Smith was right!: "I hate this place. This zoo. This prison. This reality, whatever you want to call it, I can't stand it any longer. It's the smell! If there is such a thing. I feel saturated by it. I can taste your stink and every time I do, I fear that I've somehow been infected by it."

Isn't moving from OpenTopic to UBB.x. a step down the forum software scale? I thought that OpenTopic was the ultimate forum software there is?

    Hmmm....

WTF does this place use? Cause I know a boatload of sites that use it....

Ars always had that white on white thing (and yes I know that's stylve vs programming), but I hope they ditch it for something a bit more eye friendly.

    Not for me.

I can't see the Free-DC logo when I am on the forum, any of the other stuff at the bottom, below the key to the status of a post.....

So, what does this place use?

What is wrong with your browser?

How come you cannot see the logo at the top?

One of the Free-DC themes (IIRC, it's Free-DC NXG, or something of the like) has no logo, or any buttons that you can click on to change your theme back...

now I remember why I changed to the other theme....

The text box for this one is huge....

It makes me have to side-scroll on my 15" monitor @ 800x600.

/me wishes *hint* for a theme like this one, including all the buttons and whatnot, but with a smaller text box.

    hint, hint,.....

Although I don't see any graphical changes to the layout/template, I am sure the backend has been enhanced significantly.
