Ars is now #1 with an 11M lead????

    Who jumped to them?

looks like Fozzie jumped ship (hopefully just for the day) to wake people up. Of course how many people in the US are still out of town for the holiday.

  7. #7
Wondered why everyone got a rank boost today.

Is this a thing that Fozzie does often? Or is he truly jumping ship?

Hopefully Doc's right & this is Fozzie's way of getting everyone's attention. I'd say it's working, too.

Why did the muppet jump ship ?
What gopher_yarrowzoo said about rebuild makes absolutely no sense.

If it is to blackmail the rest of us into crunching DF then shame on him.

Let's not get all riled up here, OK?

Fozzie has switched teams and no one really knows why except Fozzie. However, as they are Fozzie's points to do with as he pleases, it doesn't really matter why he's decided to switch. I support his right to do whatever he wants with them.

Hopefully it's a temporary thing, but I say that more because I hate to think that someone has left our little group rather than through any worry about our position in DF. Don't get me wrong, I like being in 1st place, but I'm more concerned that Fozzie come back home to the forums than I am about his points coming back to our stats page. We've shown that we can handle Ars and I don't doubt that we can make up the difference & retake number one if we have to.

So...Fozzie, I hope your absence is a short one, points be damned.

As for the rest of us, we really should do something about this Ars in 1st thing, I guess. Looks like I'll need to go over my machines and get them all crunching again. I know I've let several of them slip while I've been concentrating on other things during this slow protein...

Exclamation Do you see their production??

    Veneficus Fortis 200,000+ per hour.

bguinto1 isn't even producing, can you imagine when he is.

Are you all a little more aware of the danger that has developed in DF now?

Sorry to do this in such a shitty way to both you guys here and those at Ars.

No-one seemed to be taking a blind bit of notice.

With Beth133 soon to be stopping in January with the holidays being over and the protein maybe changing too, Ars woudl really have caught us on the hop.

I can't produce for a while maybe until well into next year so someone else will need to bring some fairly heavy GHZ to bear over on DF.

    There wasn't any problem.
We were monitoring the lead we had over ARS incase it was necessary to ramp up again.

Free-DC have been doing well in other projects whilst maintaning a lead over ARS in DF.

One team member jumped ship hopeing to drag us all back to his "favourite" project
because he couldn't/wouldn't participate in the other projects Free-DC have got involved in recently.

Also noteable is how an influencual founder member has used this selfish blackmail
to call for a return to DF.

Exclamation Just to come back to you on a couple of points there

We aren't/haven't been maintaining the lead since one of ARS's major players has ramped up.

DF is the only project I have run in a largish way because it fits with the only way I CAN run these projects.

I have contributed as much as I can to Lifemapper as well.

There is nothing about this attention seeking measure that should be seen as blackmail.

Everyone is still free to do whatever projects they feel like doing.

If everyone feels DF is "under control" then fine, it would have been nice to get some feedback from you other contributors, instead of ignoring the threads.

    Sorry I've pissed people off.

Heh, I suppose that last line by PCZ was aimed at me.

However, to be honest, I'm not calling for anyone to do anything they don't want to do. In fact, that was the entire point of my post. The thing that has always been important around here is people feeling free to crunch (or not crunch) for whatever project they enjoy. It's nice to be in the lead, yes, but it's not everything. Some of the most fun I've ever had with distributed computing was in situations where the lead wasn't even a possibility.

If you got the impression that I was trying to coerce people into coming back to DF with my position as a 'founder', then I think you misunderstood. I was merely deciding (somewhat publicly) what I was going to do. Please don't feel obligated to do something just because I am.

Having said all of that, let me also say that pimping your favorite project is certainly an acceptable practice here. Had it not been for people trying to get others involved in Chessbrain, I wouldn't be running it now. Like most of us around here, I tend to gravitate toward projects that others appear to be enjoying (whether it's because of a sudden surge in competition or because the project itself is special in some way). I'd really hate to see people feel like they shouldn't try to convince others to give their pet project a shot. It'd make things quite a bit duller around here.

So, let me reiterate my position on DF: I've been lax lately and Fozzie's right, Ars are looking more threatening than they have in awhile. I'm going to round up my systems and make sure that they're all crunching along (with chessbrain riding shotgun). Of course, the rest of you are all hereby abdicated of any requirement (real or imagined) to come along. Come, or not, as you choose.

Well, i've got all the computer power I own on DF, Chessbrain and MouesTracker ( ). Sadly, thats only 2 computers

Christmas is coming up, we may be getting a new system, which means the older one will stay on 24/7 instead of its current 6-7 hours a night.

    Oh well, Im trying

    Welcome back Fozzie
