for me, seven, it would be eight, but i switched my single F@H boxen to ECCP when i pulled the P3-700 cpu out and replaced it with a celeron 266@400, with that short time limit F@H has, i will only run it on boxen with fast cpu and SOLID internet connection

i am looking to become a jack of all trades, i want to run at least one home pc on all eleven projects, but right now i only have 8 pc's at home and then use the work farm to move around to projects that are lacking in active participation, kinda like a mini - ars flying squad idea like they do at Arstechnica
Use the right tool for the right job!

For me, just three. Genome, DF and some are on FAH. I just want to hit 1000 in Folding-At-Home and then move them somewhere else.
Oh wait, I can't count. I still have a few on Seti - that makes four.

    One: DF

...that is, now that the Seti gauntlet is over. I feel better concentrating my efforts, but a break now & then is a good thing, too. In the past I have run Genome, F@H, and UD.

99.9% of the time, one project.

Currently that is genome, when I switch to a new project, I test it on one box and then bring all my boxen over.

  9. #9
    SETI
Have tried to diversify, but keep coming back,
some how I just can't finish with that project.

not that it counts, Project-Dolphin aswell.

Tried all - F@H, df, G@H, seti, rc5+ogr, eccp, gimps, ubero, tsc, d2ol, ud and many others, but currently most of my
    power is focused to eccp.

One box (1.4) is dedicated to couch my Anarchistic moods - when I want to switch entire farm, I do it at first here, let it run for some time and then I usually leave farm untouched

If you pay the shipping, I have a couple of older machines sitting around.

P-100 and 133 I think. I occasionally get asked to give old computers a nice loving home where they can frolic with the other boxen.
When they can make a plaid fish, my job will be done.

hey Alpha_7, i'm doing fine, yous you doing,
yep still a lot of dust in my case, but what do you exepet with 2 x 120 mm sunon fans on the side

  20. #20
I had a chuckle when I saw all those bugs that had got sucked in..

U need to get some filters for those 120mm

Fortunately for my my 120mm is a exhaust.. so it only gets dusty from the dust already inside my case..

  21. #21
dont filters restiect air flow ??

hmmmmm add another one to make up for it

  25. #25
can;t ot i'l be mounting them on my window

  26. #26
They do of course restrict some of the air flow..

but it really depends on the type of filter and what gauge it is..
If u get some "flyscreen" type then it will keep those bugs out of your case.. but still let plenty of air thru..

or if u want to keep the dust out.. then get the foam/papery type.. which will keep the dust and bugs out, u just wash the dust out when it builds up.. but that kind prevents air flow more..

heheheh discovered the cost of shipping an obsolete box from Canada did you

On the topic of low cost parts and systems:

For those of you in the WA/BC area, I have been seeing a lot of pentium type boxen here in Vancouver in the thrift stores. Usually around $15 to $40 (CDN). Value Village has a pallet of them. As crunching machines they aint much but as a source of parts like HD, video cards, network cards, power supplies and fans, it can't be beat. So far, I haven't seen any reason to have much more than a 1GB HD for a DF cruncher so spending $30(US) will usually get you enough HD, PS and video for a small farm. Well worth the visit if you are in the area.
When they can make a plaid fish, my job will be done.

wow, people here seem to think that a pentium 166 is still worth at least $500 NZ, divide by 2 for US or that say a 700 is worth teh same or more then a brand new athlon xp system...... its nuts

    Hey plaid,

I'm in WA...good idea on buying boxes for parts...plus I know a few people who don't have computers or really old ones..and they would make great gifts at that price.

    Thanks for the heads up!!

Agent Smith was right!: "I hate this place. This zoo. This prison. This reality, whatever you want to call it, I can't stand it any longer. It's the smell! If there is such a thing. I feel saturated by it. I can taste your stink and every time I do, I fear that I've somehow been infected by it."

    Hi,

This summer, I don't know each project choice ? I have a possible of 350 PCs for me for 3 mouth.

    In this moment, I run:

    6 x Seventeen or Bust,

    300 x Primenet (GIMPS)

    50 x United Devices

    hold on Distributed Folding.

What I choice ? genome? cancer? Math?

May be I go for the short (I suppose) project "Seventeen or Bust", and after "United Devices"

    Bye
    Medical projects, yes.
    Maths projects, maybe.
    Alien projects, No.

    Thumbs up Seventeen or Bust

Just saw this is an old thread, so just to bring it up.

For the ones who don't know, Seventeen or Bust is a project that tries to solve the Sierpinski problem by finding primes for seventeen remaining numbers. In the last two weeks they found 4 of them so 13 to go. The largest of the four found is the 20st largest known prime. The next one to find might be in the top 5

Their forum is also hosted by Free-dc, their website is www.seventeenorbust.com
