Thread: old sieve ranges

    old sieve ranges

so we've got alot of old ranges that seem to be inactive should we start redoing them? I'd be willing to take both troque2k and qbnkillers ranges. If they decide to return with results I'll gladly hand the credit back over. I just want to see the factors handed in and not see any come in to late to save tests. Of course if it is possible to give me credit for any tests saved before he hands in his results I'd gladly accept that. If noone objects I'll start the ranges with in the next few days.

Of course the best perso nto hear fro mwould be anyone who has one ofthese old ranges or any that are close to them.... Just an update fro mthese old ranges would be nice.

    Keroberts,

I'd have to recommend against it at present, send them an e-mail and wait a few weeks for a response. With the prime they will probably check back in.

I noticed that you probably checked mikes gap pages since you didn't comment about alexr's.

    Things to consider:

The factor density only decreases by about half by doubling the range so ranges around 500-600T are really not that much better than 850T. Especially if you consider they could have sieved and found nothing.

Also if and when you decide to redo I'd strongly erge you to use the 991<n<50M.

I kinda agree with Keroberts1, there are some ranges which look definitely abandoned. Except those he mentions, MaGnatu seems to have also abandoned his 3 ranges (after a quick look)
Maybe we should get in touch with everyone who hasn't completed any ranges <700T and see if they can or will be completing their ranges. If they do not respond within 10-15 days, we should redo them.
This *might* help find some factors and will definitely help clean up the sieve coordination thread.
In any case, I highly doubt they found 0 factors in a range of almost 1T, as VJS suggested.

On the subject of cleaning up, especially as Keroberts1 raised the subject:
    634000-635000 Keroberts1 (sieve progress: 634974 Tue 01-Mar-2005)
    689500-690000 keroberts1 (sieve progress: 689915 Tue 01-Mar-2005)
    721000-722000 keroberts1 (sieve progress: 721957 Mon 04-Apr-2005
These 3 from the sieve coordination look probably complete to me, maybe you just forgot to declare them [complete]?

I had not actually looked at the size of the ranges... But I agree that people should have complete all their ranges less than 600T unless they state otherwise or check in.

Maddog or Keroberts if one of you wish to contact each of these memeber and check Mikes stats for the last they submitted factors it would be a good first step.

You can PM me your progess or report in this thread.

When we do decide to redo these ranges using the 991<n<50M dat is really to only option.

On the subject of cleaning up, especially as Keroberts1 raised the subject:
Keroberts I guess you brought this on yourself

It also looks like they are done but you might want to check those machines or redo do them first with 991<n<50M. Either way decide on your own ranges for now.

I'd also like to point out that there are plenty of other ranges declared complete that could have missed factors (Keroberts helped out with these as well thanks dude). A couple of us are doing these starting from 0T with the 991<n<50M, our 90% level would probably be around 70T and everything less than 50T is assigned or done.

i was actually pretty sure i did declare them complete adn of course if i redid any ranges i qould use the 991- 50 mil .dat I won't start until i finish my current range but once i reach that point i will restart them if nothing has been reported in. I wouldn't feel comfortable e-mailing them being that I'm not an admin and i don't know them personally but if someone who feels more outgoing would like to, be my guest.

    What about:

    550500-553000 Keroberts1 (sieve progress: 551940 Tue 01-Mar-2005)

    Is this your "current range"?

no only the most recent is still going

  8. #8
What he means is that there is a 1T gap in that range still, from 552T to 553T

  9. #9
i don't see what you're talking about i finished and submitted all of the results adn on mikes page i don't see any gaps. only one that ws about 150 g and trust me it was there. I went days without a factor adn was very upset about it

Then you have to make a post in the reservation thread and declare your ranges complete.

By the way, only one gap?

    Largest (accepted) gaps between factors

I've spoken with Keroberts, he has assured me that the ranges in question to the best of his memory are complete. Upon examination of the gaps and knowing he only submits factors not factexcl.txt I'd say they are acceptable and more than likely completed correctly.

Therefore I'm marking these ranges as complete:

    550500-553000 Keroberts1 (sieve progress: 551940 Tue 01-Mar-2005)
    634000-635000 Keroberts1 (sieve progress: 634974 Tue 01-Mar-2005)
    689500-690000 keroberts1 (sieve progress: 689915 Tue 01-Mar-2005)
    721000-722000 keroberts1 (sieve progress: 721957 Mon 04-Apr-2005)

Keroberts if I have missed any let me know.

    762500-763000 Kroberts1 (with 991-50M dat) (sieve progress: 762911 Fri 06-May-2005)

Also looks completed is this one done as well?

I had temporary access to another machine (for a CPU burn in test over the weekend) so I ran the range:-

    551176.13G - 551341.16G, size: 165.03G, (551176126175153-551341155455689) R: 0.567, S: 0.344
    ( 165.03G) : 550500-553000 Keroberts1

[EDIT] Just noticed it's actually only up to 551225346324881, so I've got another week left. Luckily I've copied off the files and can probably find somewhere to run it.

No factors but do you want the factexcl.txt and factrange.txt files emailed?

I'm assuming this was for keroberts but...

No that's fine but I would submit them through the server...

http://www.seventeenorbust.com/sieve should make that hole disappear.

But factrange.txt will not be accepted there, so send it to us at factrange. I wish you had used the 991-50M dat,or will if you continue. Then we would have the > 20M factors for this range. If you do decide to continue, then send us the fact.txt (after submitting it) as well.

Sure, and I'm using the 991->50M .dat.

Well there's a factor in for 21181*2^42668684+1 plus another 9 in factrange.txt and 96 in factexcl.txt so far.

pmin=551244...so that's, err, 41% of the way through.

Then certainly submit everything throught the server and zip and mail the files as well to factrange@yahoo.com.

    Thanks for helping out.

OK, I've rechecked from 551341155455689 to 551176126175153 with the 991_50M dat. Emails and factor submission will be done tomorrow morning.

When I finish my current block (882000 to 883000) I'll finish off the rest of 551000 to 552000 with the 991_50M dat rather than leave this sub-range above sieved with the 991_50M only.

    [EDIT] fact* zipped and emailed:-

    fact.txt : 5 factors
    factrange.txt: 15 factors
    factexcl.txt: 239 factors
