Does anyone have any idea why, from time to time, the program decided to "quarantine" a result, and then proceeds to run it over 5 times in a row?

Might be a bug... you can read their Forum to keep an eye on it and post back here if you find anything useful.

What happens is that, if the result he's currently crunching is higher than the best he's got on record, it checks it four more times to make sure the high result wasn't just a freak. More often than not the next few results will be lower.
Welcome aboard. This project can always use a few more crunchers, and I'm glad the explanation I gave way back in October last year has come in handy again.
if you have it on auto send results, how often or when does it send the results?
I think it's whenever the results.txt file reaches a certain size.
Usually when it hits 100 Kb.
