You would be better off to continue using your P4 for the sob client. Even PIII performs better than P4 at sieve (just for comparison: PIII-1000 @ 270kp/s and P4-1700 @ 170kp/s).
P4 power in sieving mostly relies on a fast FSB.
Using FSB800, I get 2*275 = 550kp/s on a P4 running at 3 GHz w/ Hyper-Threading enabled.

It's not as fast as the Athlons, but quite good anyway...
