Okay IB I guess it's 1 - WoW!!!!! and 2 Get out the Target and tape it somewhere again because no doubt someone will try and make you out as RoadKill Once more - not...
Major Impressive and if you get bored with it - It would be one massive lan party - just where you'd put all the decent size HD screens well that's a different matter
Semi-retired from Free-DC...
I have some time to help.....
I need a new laptop, but who needs a laptop when you have a phone...
Now to remember my old computer specs..
I just keep hoping more projects will port over to the PS3 platform.
Having 7 - 3.2GHz procs in one nice looking little box sitting on a shelf that doesn't make lots of noise and runs DNET is awesome!
You can get just one PS3, cranking ~20T per day and turn the rest of your pharmage back to other projects
PCZ, when talking about money, please do so in US currency where I might have a chance in understanding.
I got a headache reading the above
/me walks off mumbling something about 240 pennies = 2 dollars and 40 cents and scratching head about a pound of what?
Tell you what IB if i mention money i'll do the conversion to dollars for you.
Providing you never mention euros again
BTW
Just discovered my nephew works for Sony UK.
Must investigate staff discount.
40GB PS3 is currently £279.99 at Dixons (was £269.99 very briefly).
You can get 3% back via Quidco and 5% off if you use an Egg card. That makes it a couple of quid under £260.
Just throwing this out for you guys that are in the market for a PS3
www.sony.com/sonycard/ps3
Enjoy.
$299 min purchase and receive $100 credit and 12 months no interest.
Purchase must be made within the first 45 days of account opening.
Unfortunately, I don't think you get that 5% on hardware.
what DC project are you running with that PS3?

Who? If you mean me, I haven't purchased one. Believe me, if I had that much to spare I would've snapped one up without a second thought. I would probably find the money somehow if it wasn't for a holiday to Florida that I have booked for later in the year. Saving everything for that really..
yes, I meant you, alpha. sorry, I didn't read carefully enough.

I've turned off 4 PS3s because of the rise of electricity costs and the heat of the summer.
The dedicated big A/C unit in the computer room won't need to run as hard now to keep the Servers cooled down either.
Not sure I'll be bringing them back online this winter, as I'm sure I have some nephews and nieces that might want one for gaming (gasp)...
OGR is almost done now anyways.
PS: If anyone in the USA would like a PS3, make me a reasonable offer. I have all the original boxes etc. Broke in, ready to go
Damn shame I'm not on your side of the world. Somebody snap these up!
after OGR finisheds I have to offer one too...

I forgot to tell you guys that recently I was at an IBM Cell BE workshop learning about the innards of the Cell processor. The new version just released supports really good double precision floating point so would offer up a lot more DC projects but I doubt it will ever make it into the PS3 so not enough people will Cell Blades to make it worth while.
the-mk, PM me when you want to sell your PS3.
since I'm so forgetful -> I hope I don't forget it

Shipping to Australia wouldn't be too horrendous, but we run on 240V not 110V, the plugs are different, and it's region-locked to NTSC or high-def output. (And I only have a standard-def PAL telly)
(And my girlfriend would kill me )
I believe the PS3 power supply is universal voltage-wise, so all you would need is an adapter plug to make it fit into your electrical socket. However, your TV would probably be a problem.
As for the girlfriend.. chloroform?
It depends on how your postal system works, I guess (unless you use a courier). For me to send such a package from here to Austria it would cost in the region of £25/32€ without tracking/signature, and near £30/38€ with. Extra insurance would probably be required too, which might take it to 40€. That's just Royal Mail's prices though, yours are probably different. Courier might be cheaper.
I don't think so. When sending items within Europe, you don't usually need a customs label attached. Also, I've sent several packages to Portugal worth over £300 each and the recipient never paid import duty on them. I've also received several valuable packages from Sweden and never paid import duty.- how about paying duty for that PS3 (do we have to within European Union?)?

Nope, that was just a tip for others like I posted earlier in this thread.
They went out of stock within hours at that price.
