Thumbs up Official Standings - Teams

By getting 200 team points for 15th place, I think we're going to jump 6 or 7 spots in the overall standings!

I think I've just returned the last wu I've got that will finish before the end of the challenge. Got two more that I'll finish regardless but they'll be late..

I've put up the "No new work" sign, and I think I'll get a few more done just under the deadline.

same here... 5 more before the deadline. Have 4615 credits in pending for when the validator gets all caught up. I've finished all those that will finish. When do I switch back (change prefs) and continue previous work?

I use Boincstats BAM, so I just changed my Primegrid prefs to CW Sieve in preparation for the next challenge. When my clients refresh, they'll continue with any TRP LLR WUs that they have, but starting picking up new CW Sieve WUs going forward.

Geez, I should pay more attention - I didn't even know we were participating in the Challenge series this year...

I've been directing all my recent efforts towards the Dual Sierpinski double-check in the Project Staging Area. Now that the challenge is over, if anyone wants to join me and earn some PSA credit I wouldn't mind the company (Team name is "FreeDC" because I forgot the dash)

So we ended up 15th out of 208 teams.
I think this was a very good result considering how few of us there were.
Our success we owe in a large part to the monster collection of Laurenu2 who wound up in 21st place overall.

The next challenge starts 21 June. Just for the record it is best crunched with an Nvidia GPU. Sorry Lauren, no ATI applications for this one. CPUs will work though.

In the mean time, if you are looking for the best credit:
    Nvidia GPU - Primegrid
ATI GPU - Moo Wrapper (just changed to static credit so this may change)
CPU - DNA@Home (when you can get work)

    Enderak,

Regarding the name, can't you turn that over to Bok and let Bok change/correct it as should be ?

MMM How does that work ? Like Timeshares in a condo

  13. #133
It's not for a competition or anything, and the credit shows up fine in my stats. The only issue would be if someone else started crunching it and put "Free-DC" as the team name, the credit would be divided in the stats shown at http://pgllr.mine.nu:13000/all.html Since the PSA credit is applied manually by Primegrid username, it translates just fine to the Free-DC stats.

    Request explanation please......

Weren't the rules of the challenge to complete / report completed WUs before the deadline?

If so, for those WUs which did not get completed (aka quorum min satisfied) and are still running, do THOSE computers which are doing cleanup / late in reporting get credit toward the final score?

I have this example: http://www.primegrid.com/workunit.php?wuid=182317723 and can show others. I reported BEFORE the deadline.

    Please advise.

    Tnx,

    Chuck,
the rules are quite simple. If you downloaded a WU after the start and reported it before the deadline you will get credit toward the challenge. If during the cleanup process I download the same WU to complete the quorum then I will not get credit for it toward the challenge but you will. This is why the cleanup takes so long. A lot of people see that they have WUs that won't finish before the deadline and abort them. Therefore they have to be resent to people that are willing to finish them after the challenge.

    Bigred,

Thanks very much,, that's what I thought, but was confused when I saw a number of 'pending' WUs had been sent out again to another user. It was my hope that I alone would get the credit for having complied with the rules.

    Thanks,
    C.

Only 10 days till the next challenge. This one will be using Cullen/Woodall (Sieve) and it only runs for 24 hours. It runs on CPUs and Nvidia GPUs.

PCZ here is your chance to make a big splash again if you can stand the heat.

I've got my GPU rig dusted off and chugging. It kept crashing and not POSTing last night, so I'm not sure how stable it is. Fingers crossed. If it goes down while I'm at work here, it's down for half the challenge...

I've also got some CPUs on it, but the projected times are 7-10 hours, as opposed to about 5 minutes for the GPU tasks. Are these work units worth different amounts?

Answered my own question. Both are worth 364.43 each, whether they take 250 seconds (my GPU) or 10,350 seconds (my CPU)!

Pretty sad that only three of us are doing the challenge.
Still we've got the team in 25th place.
Thanks for the help Mattozan and Chuck.

Only a little over 8 hours to go.

Cool Be carefull not to get burned.

Ok, so we wish to play with ??? I will warn you in advance not to stand down-wind of me after Ripchen !!!!!!!

FYI, the first part of the app is working. I've got it at 128 bit precision even on an AMD. The only piece I have to decide/determine is where to slice the FPDP to Fixed Point. Once done, if successful on both platforms will give us the speed AND PRECISION we need for all. At that point, I will ask the 'Heavy Guns' to give it a solid test drive to make sure there are no false positives/ fatal round-off errors. We've done it before, but I have to use a new implementation and cannot simply use the one I know. So it's time for a little 'magic' to make it different enough to be GPL-able.

How long have we been waiting for such an app anyway?

    Lauren,
If you wish to ask, please do... I've got the core routines in Integer / Fixed point form now... only question is WHERE to slice it for safe Fixed Point representation to a normally Floating Point / Complex FFT problem.

Please have anyone / them / you email me directly. ALL input welcome, especially from the 'masters'.

Do you agree that having reliable 128 bit math base in integer / fixed point is of benefit even without the use of SSE / SIMD ?

It is not the Ripchen that makes you do that. It is the sauerkraut that is traditionaly served with it.

Oh, I agree totally, but if you take Rippchen and soak it properly in the saurkraut as is done very often, the two are a 'potent' combination. We also agree on that ?

    EDT is GMT/UTC - 4 (summer time), EST is GMT/UTC - 5 (winter time)
    CDT is GMT/UTC - 5 (summer time), CST is GMT/UTC - 6 (winter time)

All other adjust accordingly. Example... .In Summer, GMT 'midnight' occurs at Chicago 7:00pm.

    That help everyone?

Chuck that is way too complicated for Lauren. It would actualy require him to do some math.

Keep it simple. Chicago is on CDT and the challenge starts at 1800 UTC. That would be 1800 minus 5 hours which would make it 1300 CDT. Just to make it really simple, Lauren start them right after lunch.

    Ok guys,
I'm in, ready to give it the best I got. one machine is not yet cooling well so I reduced its max speed a bit. My oldest machine, @ 2.4 Ghz, it's taking me a little over 3 minutes / WU averge on DDR2 (that's on the old twin core machine). The others are DDR3 and doing MUCH better.

Lauren, glad you are all set with the start time? Everyone else set with their start time?

Now, one question.. Is there a BOINCView or equivalent app / config for the Linux side of the house ? I would like to only run the boinc client and manage it all from a central machine/location but never run it from one location in Linux. my client start script is set to allow remote gui rpc and the port is selected. I DO need to get the hosts' default passwords so I don't muck up the local boinc manager.

PS: Team members are welcome to use the automation script for core auto-assignment and priority/resource management (priority is a duplication of the boinc feature but overrides boinc) and auto-updates to the server on a regular basis (all configurable) for linux-based hosts.

    Tnx,
    C
