I remember that they worked offline for some time (a week or so) at distributed.net (rc5-64) and then flushed all at once. So they were able to get #1 in stats (at least in the daily stats). d.net stuff got annoyed about that cause it ****ed up their servers (couldn't handle this united flush); perhaps that's how distributed denial of service attacks were invented

Must have been before they got #1 overall at that project.

I'm not sure if that's the full story but that's what I've hread about them
