i'm probably gonna install debian tonight, and was wondering which linux client I should use

    either

    * Linux 2.x and higher (Redhat 6.x) (gcc)

    or

    * Linux 2.x and higher (Redhat 7.1) (Intel Compiler)

my pc is a p4 so should i go with

You should use the Intel-compiled version, as it has somewhat better optimizations. IIRC, the gcc-compiled version is for systems using Red Hat (and possibly other) Linux of older vintage. You shouldn't need it.

How much better is the Intel version? Not real sure. Some.

I'm using the ICC version on my Athlon XP 2500. It's not only for Intel chips; it's for any Intel clones as well.
