    Benchmark

    Hi,

is there any benchmark available that compares the average (text-client) speed on the different OS's / processors ?? It would be interesting to compare if it is worth while using Linux or QNX as operating system for DF or if AMD or Intel is faster

    Greets,
    Wirthi

I've wished for this too... between linux intel boxen and windows 9x and 2k and XP AMD and intel boxen it would be nice to see how things stack up. I've thought about hacking together a program of some kind to read the little output files or something of that nature, but haven't had time to get it together... maybe this summer when i'm out of school and working *only* 40 hours a week... (sometimes i think electrical engineering is the wrong major... )
soon enough it will be worth it

there is the database at the old yahoo forums from when we first started DF, it has about 50-60 entries

linux DEFINETLY is faster than the windows client, and the ICC (intel compiler) version is faster than the gcc version

so if you are running DF and have the option, you WILL get more structures from the same hardware running linux

as far as AMD vs intel , it wasn't really clear which was faster, somebody with better analytical skills would need to look through the database

all i know is it isn't much faster on a pentium 4 1.7/8 Ghz than a pentium 3 1.13Ghz , i think the best cpu is the fastest AMD you can get or the fastest Pentium 3 you can get , those are your best bets , IMHO

    have a nice day!

These are from the Team MacNN forums.
Please note that CPU speeds are actual mhz, not CPU model #'s for Athlons
Unit figures are based upon the current protein.

CPU Type ---------MHz / OS-------- Avg. Units
    2xG4 ---------------800-----------------2700
    2xG4 ---------------450 OS X ---------1900
    G4 -------------------867 OS X --------1587
    G4 -------------------800 OS X --------1310
    G4 -------------------400 OS X --------- 870
    G3 -------------------600 OS X ----------973
    Athlon -------------1600 Win NT ------3243
    Athlon -------------1573 Win NT ------3281
    Athlon -------------1466 Win NT ------2936
    Athlon -------------1400 XP-------------2451
    Athlon -------------1200 NA -----------1700
    Celeron------------1300 XP -----------1550
    Celeron -----------1000 XP------------ 1384

I would like to request for some bechmarks from a 1Ghz Athlon (or something close to that 1.1Ghz or 900Mhz).

What I'm seeking is how many structures a 1Ghz Athlon can generate in 24 hours.

They are to be used to expand these team comparison stats:
    http://dc.lusers.net/compare.html

Either post here or mail me and I'll make sure Tellian (which makes the stats) gets the info or post your benchmark in this Ars thread:

    Thanks in advance!

I can't seem to find any bechmarks that is useful to me on that site?

A general note: I don't think this is the place to try to recruit new members. This is the official forum for the project - recruiting shouldn't be done here and also not on other teams forums.

Shaktai, what is the unit of time on those benches?

    Hours?

2200 is far too little for a daily production number, but I don't want to just assume it is an hourly either.

    Thanks, BTW.
