If you've still got your own k's let them know soon. Also if your production is dropping I'm sure that they have picked up on it by now. They realize DCing can be fickle and I'm certain they won't complain. I mean you did find a prime for them and knock out HUGE amounts of k's.

Maybe you'll come back around to them some day once you make your rounds with your huge amount of power. :)

No posts here lately so a quick update is due...

We've taken #24 and we are consistently the top producing team each day in ranks 19-29 (as far as I have seen). Yesterday we did 157T whilst the team in #23 called CCC.de did 65T. We're about 4200T (4.2 million Gnodes) behind them so we should take them in about 46 days (21st November) if production rates stay like this.

Maybe we could set a deadline as a target? If we can find another 10T per day it should shave off about 5 days so we'd be overtaking on 15th November. Of course, this is all very approximate because our (and everyone elses) daily rates vary wildly each day.

I take it everyone with an AMD CPU has upgraded to the latest pre-release client (http://www.free-dc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11739) with the new optimized AMD core?

the-mk

The second phase of the project is 30% complete as of yesterday.

This is based on the number of stubs, not the number of Gnodes required to crunch. Since the stubs nearer the end of the project are likely to be smaller, the latter part of phase 2 shouldn't take as long.

In other words, we're doing the hardest part first and the latter part of the project should take less time to complete. Quoted for truth:

The higher-diff stubs overlap with the smaller-diff stubs from later sub-phases, so there is less work (fewer average nodes per stub) left for the later sub-phases. This makes the overall project percentage for Phase 2 (which is measured in stubs not nodes) seem to progress more slowly in the early subphases, than the later subphases.

I think maefly has put some back on SoB, hopefully his OGR production will stay high.

We're still flying though! Overtaking doesn't look too far away now.

Over the past 9 days we have averaged 244T per day.
Over the past 9 days CCC.de have averaged 67T per day.
We're 2607T behind.

But if guru can keep up production like that we should catch them in no time!

- on weekdays (Monday to Friday)
it depends, if I'm at home or I'm on a business trip. If I'm at home my AMD 3800 x2 is running for about 12 hours a day. If I do have a torrent download running, I do that on a extra machine, which is a Intel Pentium M with 1,7 ghz. That runs the about the same time like my AMD. The last few weeks I'm on business trips so I don't run any computer while I'm away from home...

- on weekends
I'm most time at home and have my AMD 3800 x2 running from Friday 6 pm to Monday 6 am, and if I have download running, the 1,7 ghz Pentium M is running too.

The AMD 3800 x2 is running on windows and the Pentium M I've switched some weeks ago to Mandriva Linux, but the output is pretty the same like I had on windows with that machine :D

My plans for the future are retiring the Pentium and sell it to a friend, put the AMD 3800 x2 to the "Download Server" position with linux (where the d.net OGR client has an increase in output), and substitute the AMD 3800 x2 with an Intel core 2 duo... maybe with a Dell Dimension E520 or I put together a nice small form factor PC with a Shuttle Barebone SD32G2...

Fozzie

T'is true, you won't show up on stats until the following day after submitting your first stub. Actually, the official stats are down right now so you might have to wait a few days.

If you calculate it back to MNodes/GHz per Core you will get pretty the same numbers... but the Intel Core 2 Duo has a nice performance!!

AMD 64 3800 X2 (2GHz) has two cores --> 13 MNodes/GHz/Core (=52MNodes/(2GHz*2Cores))
Intel P4 2,8 GHz has one core --> 12,2 MNodes/GHz/Core (=34MNodes/(2,8GHz*1Core))
Intel Core 2 Duo (1,6 GHz) has two cores --> 15,7 MNodes/GHz/Core (=52MNodes/(1,6GHz*2Cores))

Actually, there is no "we". It's Maefly and Guru..and was FoBoT. The rest of us just run around in the weeds. All movement is due to the 2-3 heavy hitters. Anything we do is just noise.

I don't think so. Look at your daily stats (http://stats.distributed.net/participant/phistory.php?project_id=25&id=458450) and it shows normal activity each day with a peak on 17th.

Usually when the stats are down they don't return with a cumulative number. Rather, each day shows like normal and you have to backtrack to see what your production was on those days.

In light of pfb's recent dumpage I've decided to do a 500 stub mega dump on a single machine. I've just started crunching it today - let's see how long this puppy takes.

No idea how many Gnodes it will be worth, but I'm sitting on 506 Gnodes from 11 stubs so far. That would put 500 stubs at 23T, but it is a bit early to be estimating at the moment. It would be a nice surprise if it turned out being enough to take #13 from DP! :)

Edit: looks like sTs950 will break 1P in tomorrow's update - congrats!

I'm 90 stubs through my 500. Playing too much Guild Wars so it isn't getting much CPU time. :) Building a Barton core XP 2500 (mostly from spare parts) for my gf in the next few days, might get it to join in with 500 of its own.

BTW guys, I'm 344 stubs through my 500 now. :)

Got the 2500+ up and running at stock 1.8GHz, but it is running pretty cool so I'll mess around with it soon. Should add a little bit to my dailies, though it will only be part time and probably not even producing every day.

China, hopefully you mean Mnodes/s otherwise it isn't worth powering that bad boy up! ;) 31Mnodes/s is about what my single core 3700@2.5GHz does.

Ok, got the 8 core beast built with linux. Here's the benchmark scores for a single thread. All cores are running at 2.66Ghz.

[Mar 22 21:34:54 UTC] RC5-72: Benchmark for core #7 (SGP 3-pipe)
0.00:00:17.13 [9,599,831 keys/sec]

[Mar 22 21:36:50 UTC] OGR-P2: Benchmark for core #3 (GARSP 6.0-asm-rt1-mmx)
0.00:00:16.93 [40,910,083 nodes/sec]

All 8 cores comes to:
RC5: 76,798,648 keys/sec
OGR: 327,280,664 nodes/sec

Anyone want to do the calculations for me to get the 24hr totals?

alpha

327 Mnodes/sec

alpha
04-26-2007, 01:54 PM
Only a 3800+ and I can't remember what it was clocked at when I benchmarked OGR. It's running stable at 2.4GHz at the moment but I still need to play with it a bit.

I think I might be able to get up to almost 10 Tnodes/day if I bring all I have to the table. Not enough to catch you any time soon!

the-mk

"only" a 3800 X2? Which socket? 939 or AM2?

My 3800 X2 (a Toledo for 939) is doing about 52.5 MNodes/s with 2 GHz

alpha
04-27-2007, 02:46 AM
Well yeah, it's a low end X2 but it outperforms my single core predecessor by a mile so I'm very pleased. :)

It's socket 939 (Manchester) with 2x512kb L2. 52.5 Mnodes/sec sounds about right for yours at 2GHz, if mine does ~60 at 2.4. Aren't you gonna overclock that CPU? Over the past few days, mine has been running at 53C in the night and 55C in the day, on stock cooling.

I'm still playing with the overclock on my gf's Barton 2500+. It's only running at 2GHz (~50C), so I think there is room for improvement. At stock speed it did around 25 Mnodes/sec, so I might be able to get it near 30 if I'm lucky.

BTW it looks like you're safe from Condor for a while but keep an eye on him!

the-mk
04-27-2007, 12:03 PM
I'm safe from Condor? :D Well he is far far away, but he has higher output than I currently have...

I'll keep my 3800 X2 on standard speed, because I want a silent and stable system, but it would be more silent if Cool&Quiet would enable it, when CPU has only 1% load or something like that... but with crunching... what ever...

From bovine's .plan:

Dear friends,

We would like to announce that we have just recently completed
OGRp2-25.1 (ie: OGR-25 phase 2 sub-phase 1). For a full technical
summary of the current progress and phases of OGR, please see
http://faq.distributed.net/?file=230

We are continuing to make progress on OGRp2-25 (sub-phases 2, 3, 4,
and 5) at this time. Due to the arrangement of the stubs within the
sub-phases, there is less work (fewer total stubs) left for the later
sub-phases. Our current estimated percentage complete for all of the
OGRp2-25 work is ~51.13%, as of 2007-04-25. You can see the current
percentage at http://stats.distributed.net/projects.php?project_id=25

Of course RC5-72 is also actively running, so you can choose to
participate in one or both of our projects.

It is also exciting to be able to announce that this month marks the
10-year anniversary of the start of distributed.net! We thank everyone
that has participated in our projects to date and look forward to
continued success.

Moo! ]:8)

This is quite exciting, since sub-phase 1 consists of 48,979,672 stubs and we know we've got sub-phases 2-5 well underway anyway.

Didn't mean to interfere with your ramping up there Fozzie :) Just wanted to help the team get some points to try and make the push into the top ten before the project ends. With the numbers that everyone is generating it looks like we should be able to do it too.

Fozzie

aren't interfering at all, good to have your boxen with us again.

I've just tried out a little offline test if it all goes well I'll pull a few GHZ over from DPAD.

I saw Condor saying the same so it would be nice to hit 650-700 a day.

Hi Fozzie.... you "problem" is very easy to resolve.

[buffers]
frequent-threshold-checks=2

change the number 2 ( you had here a 4 I think) into a zero and off you go again until your buffer is emty.

0 = crunch without connecting with a sever / proxy
2 = crunch wu and download a new 1 directly (so offline means that de core wont do anything because he cant download 1)

Okay, time for the dumb question of the week, month, or year... :) The powers to be say that the project is at 52% or so completion. I would assume that is based on the percentage of total number of work units completed? I'm watching my crunchers just chewing through work units as we seem to be in a bunch of really short buggers. So supposing all or the majority of work units left for the project are short buggers, then does that lend to the belief that the second half of this project could go by really fast as compared to the first half???? Or is there some other way that they are tracking the completion percentage for the project?

edit: The competition is getting a little too close in my main project, so going to have to put some effort back into that to build up some distance again. sigh....

JustEmazing
06-03-2007, 11:08 AM
Brucifer: I don't have the answer about how the percentage is calculated. I do think we can make the top 10 before the project completes. I may have to start tracking their "completion" percentage. It is definitely rising as we pick up steam. As for switching back to the other project: thanks for joining us with whatever you can spare!

I'll get something back here shortly, just won't be as high as it's been. I'd like to see the top ten before the end of the project. Would be cool for the team history. And I'd like to see if I can get down into the 300's too. :)

Your thoughts to track the percentage probably isn't a bad idea as it would give an idea on how things are tracking.

Looks like I came back just in time to see us take some places. :) Of course, we had a power cut whilst I was on holiday so lost a couple of days production.

As for percentage calculation, this has been discussed extensively in another thread (http://www.free-dc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=12240&p=111851). To summarise:
percentage completion is based on the number of stubs, not the number of nodes
average stub length should shorten as we progress through the project, so percentage completion will rise faster as we get nearer to the endOh, and have a good one the-mk!

Rule of thumb is 8 CPUs per 15 amp circuit to be safe.

100 watts =~ 1 amp

most DC computers use 150-200 watts or more, each.
