I noticed a packet shortage myself, that's why I went in and made changes to my dnetc.ini file so it would auto search for any key server to find work, but defaults to Bok's key server.

I don't know if anybody else has noticed but over the last few days the 24hr project progress has jumped incredibly:

Date % since yesterday
25/06/2007 0.19
26/06/2007 0.19
27/06/2007 0.17
28/06/2007 0.19
29/06/2007 0.21
30/06/2007 0.26
01/07/2007 0.32
02/07/2007 0.60

Basically, instead of the normal 0.13-0.19% per day or so, yesterday participants tore through 0.60% of the stubs! If daily progress continues to rise like this, we should be done in no time.

This makes sense if you all say there was a stub shortage yesterday, because if smaller stubs are being distributed then project progress will rise faster. It's a little odd though, since we are still supposed to be working on 6-diff stubs.

wirthi
07-03-2007, 03:23 AM
The percentage till completion are calculated based on the number of stubs (not nodes). So if we get smaller stubs (with less nodes) that are of course faster to computer, we do more stubs a day. That's what happened yesterday, thus 0.6% on one single day instead of 0.2 what seems to be average.

the-mk
07-03-2007, 05:11 AM
The smaller stubs only happened yesterday (< 5 GNodes). Today I've got big stubs again (> 100 GNodes)...

magnav0x
07-03-2007, 01:46 PM
Whew, had some serious load issues with all the servers running DNET. The original Systems Administrator stuck about 16-20 servers on 3 power strips and had those power strips connected to one power strip which was on a 15amp breaker on the APC. Kept throwing the breaker, until I went back there and realized what they had done. I split the load on 2 breakers, so we'll see how it goes over the next 24 hours. I may need to further split the load on another breaker to be safe.

Yeah -

I had to go no-net for almost 24 hours while QWEST dorked around changing my DSL service. I had lots of packets, but I couldn't get the client to run without a net connection.

Of course, I couldn't connect here to ask...

Anyway, I'm just a one PC cruncher, so I contributed very little to the drop in production.

Ah, I see now that we've started the first half of 5-diff stubs. Up until now all we've been doing is 6-diff stubs. The number of values separated by hyphens after "OGR-P2: 25/" helps you identify what type of stub it is. All the biggies we've mentioned today have been the new 5-diff stubs.

This page (http://faq.distributed.net/cache/230.html) confirms that we have started them (38361468 5-diffs stubs : 0 < stub-length <= 98 In Progress).

Lower diff stubs will generally have more nodes and therefore take longer to crunch. So as we move on to 4-diff and 3-diff stubs later we could see bigger stubs than this!

Edit: just to be clear, we have not finished all 6-diff stubs yet - we're just doing them in tandem.

Would anyone mind having the Free-Dc key server stats reset?
http://stats.free-dc.org/dnet/ogr/byemail.html
The above stats are for monitoring your pharms output and there is not much in it for historical purposes as it only measures how many keys you take or return to that key server and has nothing to do with the grand totals. Some have used it temporarily, some have never used it.

Bok might be willing to run it more often, like hourly (hint), if he could purge the data.

If one wants to know how they are doing historically, you have Bok's other fine stats system to consult.

PRERELEASE!!

I didn't feel any speed improvment to version 499 on 32 Bit Windows platform when benching OGR-P2...

Info regarding the prerelease client.

client v2.9008 contain support for phase 2 of the OGR (aka OGRp2) project. Please keep these items in mind when running one of these versions. Be sure not to do any RC5-72 with these through Bok's server unless he updates it.

* These clients communicate with the DNS address *.v29.distributed.net.
* These v2.9008 clients can only send/receive OGRp2 packets when communicating with a proxy of build 341 or higher. Clients will still be able to do "OGR classic" and RC5-72 packets if communicating with a proxy of build 330 or higher.
* Proxies build 335 or higher will only communicate to clients v2.8015.469 or higher. Proxies build 341 or higher will only communicate to upstream servers also of build 341 or higher.
* All RC5-72 workunits are now of size 2^32. The client currently does not allow the selection of larger sized workunits, though we will re-introduce this functionality at a later time. There are no plans to provide smaller sized workunits.
* Although most of the RC5-72 cores in these clients are now partially optimized, we still welcome contributions of further core improvements. See the source code page for more details.
* Please do not send questions regarding these pre-release clients to any of the mailing lists. You are instead encouraged to ask them on IRC or by e-mailing support.

chg: x86: OGR core selection for P4 (#3988 and others)

We're 4.400.000 GNodes behind #9. We're gaining 610.000 Gnodes/day (at yesterday's speed). That would be 7.2 days.

I wanted to hold out another week or so until I passed him, but I almost killed one of those poweredge servers. Don't think the big wigs would be too happy if I did that :bang:

I have the AC set to 66 in the server room and it's not dropping below 75 degrees in there.

No stats update for today, here's why:

:: 06-Aug-2007 06:06 GMT (Monday) ::

We are currently experiencing some network communication issues
between our keymaster and our keyservers. We expect the issue will be
resolved sometime today. All results that have already been
transmitted have been stored until the connectivity issues are
resolved. There will be at least a one or two day delay in stats
reflecting the latest results. Thanks for your patience!

Also a .plan, but a little older... (http://n0cgi.distributed.net/cgi/dnet-finger.cgi?user=snikkel)

:: 26-Jul-2007 17:24 GMT (Thursday) ::

Dear friends,

We would like to announce that we have recently completed OGRp2-25.2 (ie:
OGR-25 phase 2 sub-phase 2) and are very close to completing OGRp2-25.3. For a
full technical summary of the current progress and phases of OGR, please see
http://faq.distributed.net/?file=230

As we move forward, we have just begun distributing stubs from OGRp2-25.6.
These stubs are the first of the 5-diff stubs and as a result are quite a bit
bigger than stubs we have been working on in the recent past.

We are currently working on OGRp2-25 sub-phases 3, 4, 5 and 6 at this
time. Due to the arrangement of the stubs within the sub-phases,
there are fewer but larger stubs left for the later sub-phases. Our
current estimated percentage complete for all of the OGRp2-25 work is
~64.65%, as of July 26, 2007. You can see the current percentage at
http://stats.distributed.net/projects.php?project_id=25.

We have just released new clients (v2.9004.499) which feature a 1-3%
increase in the speed of the OGR MMX core. You can find the clients at
http://www.distributed.net/download/clients.php

maefly (Team better than anyone else): Gnodes/sec - 1.818 Time working - 367 days

You're absolutely correct, and your numbers are impressive.

For three weeks in 2002 I ran OGR before switching to RC5. I didn't begin to switch back to OGR until 2005, and didn't go full-time on OGR until 2006. :|ot|: During the last quarter of 2006 and first half of 2007 I also did a little bit of sieving (PSP (http://stats.free-dc.org/new/allusers.php?proj=psp_s) and Riesel (http://stats.free-dc.org/new/allusers.php?proj=rsieve)). I'm pretty easy to find on those charts. (Hint, look near the top :harhar:)

When I calculate my own OGR stats, I normally use the start date of 26-July-2005, and don't do anything about the sieving times. So since that date in 2005, my rate has been 1.499 Gnodes/sec, since 01-Jan-2006 it's been 1.782 Gnodes/sec, and so far this year it's been 2.292 Gnodes/sec.

Do you mind me asking what types of CPUs you crunch on d.net with? Mine are mostly PowerPCs, which do okay, but there's no G5/AltiVec optimized core for either OGR or RC5, at least not under Linux. I used to have a G4 which had an optimized RC5 core and it really smoked for the clock speed.

Also, I love both wool sweaters and socks. They are indeed comfortable.
But enought about me.

Congratulations on your crunching. You and the whole FreeDC team have been very impressive, especially during this last run. I also liked the "Team Arby's" and "Team better than anyone else". I may have to borrow the Arby's one. :lmao:
